Should I get tested?

Should I get tested?

My father died of Pulmonary Fibrosis in 2003.  In 2004, my mother sold their house and found out that they had massive amounts of radon in the house.  Now in 2008 it appears that my mother may have the same disease.

I lived in that home from 1977 to 1989.  I will be 40 in March, and I am concerned about the long term effects of radon.  If I am predisdosed to Pulmonary Fibrosis, then it appears there is nothing I can do about it.  There is no effective treatment or cure, so getting tested for that won't make a difference.

What I am concerned about is lung cancer.  I have never smoked, except for an occasional cigar or pipe (not enhaled).  I am an good health, and have no symptoms or problems that I am aware of.  However, is it possible that the radon could have caused long term damage that may result in cancer 20 or more years later?  Could I have a spot in my lung and not even know about it?

Should I be tested, or am I worrying about something that I have no business worrying about?  I kinda feel selfish posting a question like this when there are people on this forum with real problems, but I feel I need to ask.  I don't even know if a doctor would prescribe a chest x-ray on these grounds.  I also have a 36 year old brother who lived there longer than I did.  What should we do?

Thanks for your help!
