Stage 4 non small cell lung cancer

My mom is 69 and has just been diagnosed with stage 4 non small cell lung cancer. We were expecting this, but it's still very hard. She has it in her left lung, on the mediastinum and on her right adrenal gland. We will hopefully be seeing the oncologist next week. We don't know how long she has, but outcomes don't look good, mean life expectancy of 8 months. This is hard to believe! She is someone that really wants to know prognosis, she is a planner and is trying to get her life in order. Any comments, advice, stories that might help us?

I wish you and your mom much luck.  my mom's dr. gave her 6 mos. and that would have meant June would have been the 6th month.  Today we found out she has 2 new nodules, l on each side.  She cannot have surgery chemo or radiation due to her overall health.  she is on full time oxygen.  all we can do is pray and hope that time continues on and our moms do not suffer.  i believe it is in God's hands and that things can work out.  wishing you the best, Dee123abc.  God Bless.

Check out cancer survivors network look under lung cancer. There are stage 4 survivors! Some of the new chemos are getting people well. If she smokes she needs to stop. Others have gone thru this and come out o.k. Dont always go by stats some are old.
