Symptoms of Lung cancer questions...

I have read symptoms of lung cancer, but is it normal for symptoms to come and go if you do have cancer?  I haven't been diagnosed with lung cancer, but a non calcified 5 mm nodule was found 3 months ago in my left upper lung. I just had my 2nd scan 2 weeks ago and am awaiting my appointment on May 19th.  Some days I feel absolutely great.  Other days, I am constantly clearing my throat (could be sinus or allergies not sure, I live in the midwest) it happens a lot after I eat. Sometimes I cough to clear my throat but it isn't constant.
I get chest pain, light headed, the pain seems to move and comes and goes. Sometimes I feel it in my arm, elbow, legs, hips, back... I do get short of breath here and there too. I have had 2 pulmonary breathing test, everything fine. Chest X-ray fine, blood work 3 months ago fine. Just waiting on the results of this CT scan with contrast.  But if I do have cancer (which I think I do) is it normal for these to come and go and move around? My docs are just treating me since I have never smoked just as nothing, its normal, but everything I read on the internet says its not okay.
I am a healthy 33 year old non smoker with exposure to 2nd hand smoke growing up and possilbe exposure to asbestos at one not sure.
I just had a kid 9 months ago and am completely a worried mess.  Any insight would be great...thank you!

Hi there.

It will be very hard to tell if you really have cancer just basing from your symptoms.  Lung cancer symptoms would include progressive deterioration, like progressive difficulty of breathing, progressive and crescendo chest wall pains, relentless coughing (sometimes with blood) and also unexplained weight loss.  It is possible that symptoms wax and wane but this is rather not typical of lung cancer.  If your latest CT scan shows that the nodule is unchanged, then this may just be a benign nodule.  If it changes in size or multiplies, then you may require a biopsy procedure which you should discuss with your doctor.  I hope your scans will turn out OK.  Regards.

Thanks for getting back to me.  I missed my appointment last week due to being sick with pharangytis and the stomach flu. I go back next Tuesday for some answers hopefully. Some days I feel absolutely great nothing is wrong, but lately I am coughing a lot more a lot to clear my throat with a lot of mucus but no blood.  I taste blood sometimes but I think that is because I get a hold of sinus headaches living in Ohio.  Like I said somedays I have no pain, other days, my chest hurts, but it almost feels muscular.  Today it is very tight and heavy feeling, making it hard to breath.  Anyway thanks for getting back to me and I hope that my scan turns out alright...I am just not very optimistic about stuff.

I just got my results back from my 2nd scan.  Guess I have to have another scan in July. The nodule has not changed shape or size, but is still non-calcifed.  He said he doesn't think it is cancer.  Well that is not too reassuring to me that he 'doesn't think'. I have a lot of drainage which in turns makes me cough. He said it 'could be' allergies, which I have never had in my life. Why all of a sudden would I have allergies? Do you think I should get a second opinion or just wait until July.  I am just so frustrated with this lets wait and see if it changes or grows. I am worried sick and it is hard for me to relax until I know for sure that this nodule isn't anything.  Your thoughts?  Thank you very much for your time regarding this matter!!!
