Too long to wait a year for further diagnosis

I had a CT scan the other day and it showed a 9mm nodular opacity in the superior segment of the left lower lung.  Differential diagnosis includes early pneumonia, focal pneumonitis, scarring and early developing neoplasm.  Given history of smoking , 3 follow-up chest CT is recommended to document stability/resolution.
My question is how long do I wait to take the next CT?  My family doctor says do one a year.  What is your opinion?  I'm really concerned about the possibility of cancer.
Thanks,
Linda Waddell

Linda make sure you ask for a copy of the radiologist report and disc of pictures of your lungs. I wish I had but I will get mine this week.. that way you  can see if they are growing fast or really slow growing which is a blessing. If you have questions right them down. I just don't want anyone go through what I have

Thank you for your reply.  Right now I only have one nodule in my lower left lung.  I have an appointment with a Pulmonary Specialist tomorrow.

Good luck with your appointment.

Linda do you only have one nodule or several. Do you have R.A? and when did the first nodule show up. I can't tell you how many nodules I have but they were first found in the upper right side of the alveoli My nodules went from 1.8mm I had one 3mm being the largest. They were on both sides. My first cat scan was done in Aug or sept . . In Nov they were 2) 3mm 2) 5mm a 8mm and one that is 2x2x10. If you have good insurance don't wait do what makes you feel comfortable. You can see how fast mine grew. my next cat scan is Feb 13th. Do what you feel is right.

My pulmonary doctor recommended an additional CT Scan at 3 - 4 months, then again at one year, and another one a year later for check my nodules.
