continued treatment

Have been fighting lung cancer for 3 yrs,non small cell, several attempts with chemo, remission for one year came back larger on lung and also showed up on spleen and liver. Doctor has pretty much given up and keeps talking about being comfortable. Most recent ct shows lung tumor no change (has not grown) and spleen and liver has grown. Not strong enough to go thru chemo and not candidate for surgery right now. I am not the patient I am her son it is my mom, she is 73 and been a fighter up to now. If she gets stronger off the chemo and has another ct and the tumors haven't grown would you contemplate surgery to remove tumor portion of liver and spleen ? Thank you and what you provide is a blessing.

I am the daughter of lung cancer survivor...my mom will be 70 in August...been in remission for 5 yrs...Had surgery to remove 2 lower lobes of her right lung, 4 rounds of 2 diff types of chemo, and had 2 lengthy hospital stays due to infection acquired in lobe that was left of right lung. That being said, how does your mom feel about what the Dr. is saying? Does she...and do you have a good rapport with the Dr.? What about a 2nd opinion, or is there a cancer center close to you that you can refer to? Everyone is different, and it really will come to what your mom wants...and together you all and your family deciding...Good luck to you both.
