lung cancer or not

by ilovgarf, Jun 22, 2009 06:25PM
Hi Doctor,

My brother who has been HIV Positive for 10+ years now has in the last year been ill off and on.  His t-cell count is around 400.  Last year he was hospitalized twice for pneumonia.   He is now in the hospital again but this time he was coughing up blood.  They did a chest x-ray and it showed a mass in his upper lobe of the lung.  They cant do a biopsy yet until his breathing is more stable but they do plan on doing a biopsy.  If this is cancer of the lung, do you recommend chemo or radiation?  Would it even be worth the effort to just give him time?  I love my brother but I dont want him to suffer.  Thank you for any advice you could give me.
