lung cysts

my 8 month old was born with a pneumothorax- he now has asthma and is having a ct scan to look for lung cysts- they also want to scan his kidneys- Does anyone know why they are doing this- is it routine?

This case is actually beyond my scope. The only items I found involving cysts for both lung and kidney included a rare disease called Lymphangioleiomyomatosis and hydatid cysts (due to echinococcus).

LAM is a disorder of smooth muscles resulting in cystic architecture. It is also associated with pneumothorax. However, it usually affects women of childbearing age though a case in a 12 year old has been found.

Echinococcus involves a parasitic infestation; its natural host is the dog. Whether this is relevant to your case would depend on where you live (urban or rural setting) and the geographic distribution of the parasite
