nodule

in the past year my mother has had a nodule in her lung, that has grown from 1 cm in size to the size of a quarter and her oncologyst has advised for her to have surgery, with out a biopsy to see if it is cancer. what should she do first?

Hi,
You need to discuss with your oncologist. Ask him what kind of surgery is he planning and why does he think it should be removed. What i think is, that the oncologist has suggested you a surgical excision biopsy which means removal of the lesion as a whole and then sending it to the lab for a diagnosis on the type of growth or lesion it is. The growth of the lesion in the last one year is one of the causes of concern. Goodluck.
