noncalcified nodule and gout?

noncalcified nodule and gout?

Im a 60 year old non-smoker (I smoked 30 years ago) and recently had a ct heart scan where I was found to have a 7.5 mm noncalcified nodule in the upper chamber of my rt. lung. The day I had the test, was the first day I incurred a severe 10 day long gout attack in my foot (I have had gout attacks before but never have I had a ct scan). I have an appointment to see a pulmonologist over the coming weeks but I'd like to find out prior to seeing him if the nodule and gout could have any relation to one another. Thanks.

Hi,

Gout is able to deposit irritant crystals of uric acid over the lining of the joints. While this type of tissue is not unique to the joints, it being present in the lung as well (along the larger airways), attributing the nodules in the lung to the gout is a bit of a long shot. Patients with other joint problems like Rheumatoid arthritis may present with nodules in the lung.
If there is rapid tissue breakdown in the cancer, particularly after chemotherapy, it is possible to exacerbate the gout due to the increase in uric acid associated with cancer cell destruction.
Stay positive. .
