My father-in-law started spitting up blood and was taken into hospital for a week. They did all the scans and tests but they couldnt get a biopsy as tumour was on bottom right of lung. He has to go for a specialised biopsy but specialist told him he has nsclc spread to middle of chest and glands.DO YOU THINK THE CANCER IS ADVANCED?

Hi.

Advanced cancer can be determined by the stage of the disease.  Advanced stages of NSCLC would include stage IIIB and stage IV which are deemed to be incurable.

From your descriptions alone, I believe it is very hard to ascertain the stage.  the stage of the cancer can be determined through the extent of the tumor, the number of nodes, and the presence of distant metastases which can be seen through imaging studies such as the CT scan or a PET scan.

I suggest you ask his doctors about the actual cancer stage from all the tests done.  Regards and God bless.
