x-ray results

I went to see my Dr 2 days ago, because I have had a pain in theright of my back for a while now, but for the past 2 weeks am having pain when taking deep breathes. I am also experiencing numbness in my fingers & toes. The pain is only bad when I am taking deep breathes, and I am geting a little breathless. I am a smoker of 41 years old.
My GP sent me straight to the hospital for a x-ray, but they told me the results won`t be through to my GP for 7 to 10 days, do you think I could have the signs of lung cancer, my mum died 7 years ago from breast cancer. I cannot believe I have to wait so long for results, as I am worried out of my mind, and cannot focus on daily living and work.

Hi,

In case you are having chest pain and it is aggravated on deep breathing; a chest xray is required as an emergency investigation.

Several causes need to be ruled out including a pneumothorax, rib fracture, pneumonia, etc. These can only be managed once the other causes are ruled out.

It should not take 7 days for your xray to come, if it is so, go to the ER and get an xray done.

Consult your doctor about the symptoms you are having.

Do you have any fever/ cough/ sputum? Is there any history of trauma to the chest?

Let us know about the xray report.

Post us about how you are doing and if you have any doubts.

Regards.

hi canroy,

right now it's too early to say whether you have cancer or not. usually the most common symptoms of lung cancer are chronic cough, chest/back pain, coughing out blood, and rapid weight loss. based on your description, your symptom is non-specific and could also be caused by diseases other than lung cancer.

how many years have you been smoking, and how many packs per day?
