variable oxygen saturations

variable oxygen saturations

This question goes back to my last one of having low O2 sats. I have been checking them lately but it seems that the heart rates and o2 sats are all over the place. I change fingers, machines, you name it, I've done it. during one walk, it went down to as low as 60 but would then come back up and sit at 100. sometimes the heart rate would seem to be picking up but the saturation wouldn't. Does this mean anything other than I am weird?

To accurately measure your o2 saturation, one should keep the finger you use absolutely still.  Check your radial pulse rate and compare to the pulse rate on the oximetry.  If the pulse rate is equal to your palpated pulse rate it should be an accurate reading.  Many factors play into a changing pulse/o2 sat rate.  For example, one utilizes more oxygen supply with any activity.  So, it is not uncommon for your pulse to go up and 02 sats go down during for example walking, showering or any strenuous activities.  Hope this helps.
