+ ANA, + Sm, + antochromatin?

+ ANA, + Sm, + antochromatin?

I was being tested for causes of a recent miscarriage.  I work in a lab so am familiar with the ANA, but still am confused.   I am a white 28 yr old female.

ANA - positive (didn't have a titer or pattern)
Anti-smith anitobdies - positive (high)
Anti-chromatin antobodies - positive (high)

My doctor appt is in 1 week, but can someone tell me does this mean I do have Lupus?  I have always had canker sores very bad at time & am light sensitive.  I have lower back pain & my knees get sore while I am at work.

Hi and welcome to MedHelp.

Anti-Sm don't have anything to do with disease activity, but is extremely specific and useful in confirming the dx of SLE.

If you meant to spell "anticardiolipin" that has something to do with how the blood clots and can possibly affect the baby.  It is also common in lupus.

It sounds like you are not having a tremendous amount of problems w/ lupus symptoms.  And I feel confident they could help you carry a successful pregnancy to term.

No It's Antichromatin Antibodies, also known as Anti Nucleosome antibodies.   My cardiolipin ab's are negative.
I have have symptoms that coinside with lupus, but the main thing I am focused on is a healthy pregnancy at this point.

Thanks for the clarification.  I am not personally familiar with that antibody, so I did some research.  (I figure you have done as well).

From what I have read, antichromatin antibody is very specific to systemic lupus as well as the anti-Sm antibody.  reference: http://rheumatology.oxfordjournals.org/cgi/content/abstract/43/2/220

I have learned something today.  And this information was not in "The Lupud Book" by Dr. Wallace M.D.

Praying for you and your baby.

Thanks Kara for the link.  I'll look into that.  I'm very anxious about my appointment wednesday to see what they say.  I was seeing a Hemaologist because we thought clotting problems might have caused the m/c.  Maybe it was a lupus flare...
I'll let you know
