Can you have lupus with just positive ana and rest of blood work normal
I am waiting on new appt with a reumatologist that specializes in rare disorders of autoammuine
diseases. For 3 years now i have been sick on and off with the following
malar rash on cheeks
severe knee pain
oral & nose ulcers
conatant on & off fevers 99.9
my current reumy keeps running blood work & only thing that comes back
possitive is ana, and some times elevated wbc, an very low d @ 10.
She says i dont have lupus cause it's not showing up in blood work
the lupus blood work and sjogrens keeps comming back normal.
My question is cant you have all the symptoms of lupus and have it
and lupus blood work come back normal.
Also my new symptom now face, legs hands and feet going numb
balance issues ,short term memory loss. So i wen to er they did
mri with dye and found 12 lesions in the white matter saying
likely represents a demyelinating disease poss ms.
Was wondering if it could be sle lupus gone to my brain. Just had a
lumbar puncture for that waiting on results dec 1st. Doctors also suspect
possible sjogrens, and scleroderma. They are always looking at the top
of my hands they stay very red and kinda swolen,
I go to new reumy specialist nov 30th have all medical records sent to them
also a symptom log and copys of mri's.
I would appreciate any input and help you guy's may have.
thank's for listening, and have a great thanksgiving!!!!
Whew, those symptoms sure do sound lupusy. I don't know what to tell you on the brain lesions. I would certainly send it out on the MS forum.
The only advice I could give you is to spend time in the sun prior to your appointment on the 30th. About 15-20 min.(even if it's cloudy). To answer your question, yes. You can have w/ just a positive ANA and everything else be normal. There are 11 criteria and if you have at least 4 of the 11, then a dx is very likely. There is mild lupus and severe (where the organs are involved). Yours sounds like mild. I know you thinking this doesn't feel mild, but trust me, it is compared to what it could be.
Thanks so much for your answers.
I ask my reumy about the pattern of my ana she just said it didnt have a speckled pattern
she is verry young and wants all diseases to go by the book and blood work to
match, and my primary doctor that ive seen fot past 20 yr;s says they teach them
in medical school that autoamuine diseases usely overlap and the blood work
for all hardly ever all come back positive for that disease,
That you can have all the physical symptoms and some blood work come back positive.
One of my autoamuine diseases has now caused me to be diagnosed with tachycardia
when i went to er with lupus symptoms and uti the doctors said that sle or sjorgrens
was causeing me to have tachyardia to add to my list.
Reumy has me on low dose predisone 5mg a day for the past 4 months now seem to
help a bit with joint pain but fevers and rash still breaking through pred. She says i have
all the physical sympt of lupus, sjogrens and poss vasculutus & treating me for ryanuads
with a blood presure type pill for my fingers busting on the tips and not geting well.
Just been going down hill for 2 yr's now, and didnt know about the lesions in brain
till i went to er becuse of my whole face went numb and legs, and was haveing
very bad short term mem problems & they did mir with dye. That scared me to death.
Thanks for advice on sun, I just pray the new reumy can give this monster a name
and give me something to help, in 2 years it has taken my ability to add money
pay bills and buy gro i get very confused now with money, cant multitask i get very
confused and forget what im doing, very scarry but i know it could always be worse.
Thank you so much for listening & help, praying for diagnosis maby the 30th
with new reumy!
Hope you have a great day!!!!!
Be sure and tell the nurse and dr. that you want a copy of every test they do. I would also go to the hospital and get a disc of your MRI, you will probably need it if you are sent to a neurologist. Start a file and keep every lab and test. Get the reports as well as the disc (if it's a CT or MRI, etc)
DON'T FORGET TO SPEND TIME IN THE SUN PRIOR TO GOING IN TO SEE YOUR DR.
