Ds DNA Positive

Ds DNA Positive

I got my latest blood work and it showed all normal except for my DS DNA came back positive.  Dr said because the ANA came back normal, he is going to disregard the positive DN DNA test.  I am on Plaquenil, Mobic and Ampitriptlyn
Any Thoughts??
I am still trying to decide if I believe I have Lupus, I have a ton of pain in knees, feet and small bones of hands, tired, mouth sores, hair always falling out and I have had previous positive ana-speckled.  Dr has given me a ton of information about lupus, but has to my knowledge not said for sure that is what I have???  THOUGHTS OR COMMENTS PLEASE

I personally disagree with your Dr. disregarding the dsDNA!!!  I have Lupus and a couple other things and I've had my ANA normal and dsDNA sky high at the same time.

Is this a GP or a rheumatologist that you are seeing?  If you don't have a rheumy yet, you should get one if possible and take along copies of all the blood work you've had done...

I agree w/ iloveigs.  dsDNA is actually very specific to SLE.  And since you had a pos. ANA previously along w/ lupus symptoms, I would certainly press the issue.

Look up the 11 criteria for lupus and know that one has to have at least 4 in order to get dx w/ lupus.

as iloveilgs and karajo stated the anti dsDNA test is very specific to SLE and is one of the more "prominent" labs that usually swing in a ruling of lupus whereas a positive ANA w/o other poitive labs would be more likely to get you a wait and see approach. To me your dr is approaching it kind of backwards?Having both although at differnt times to me signal something is definately going on.

I personally would start with looking for a rheumy(if this is a GP) and if it is a rheumy then looking for a new one as this one does not sound too well versed.

No one is happy with this diagnosis :) but you do need a really good doc to help you deal and honestly this one just does not sound like they fit the bill.
Hope all goes well.

Thanks for commenting everyone, I have been seeing him for 2 year now (rheumy) he seems very knowledgeable, thinking he was having a bad day--he is one of the top Dr's at Yale Hospital.
I have more than the 11 criteria too
