Gabapentin

Gabapentin

I was wondering why my Rheumatologist would take me off Lyrica and put me on Gabapentin. The reason I saw my Dr. was I started getting sharp pain on the right side of my body from my neck to my toes along with alot of nerve pain also. at times where I would pick up something and almost drop it I would have to use my left hand to catch it along with sharp pain like pins and needles jabbing me.Then the doctor did a test with my right arm where he was checking I was my blood vessel or nerves listening for my pulse which he said was elevated.Whats with that?Another BIG problem is my memory forget about that BAD BAD wher my husband has to finish my sentences now terrible.I looked in my Drs. notes and he has THORACIC OUTLET SYDROME, what does alll this mean?????HELP
Thanks,
Mary

Hi Mary,

I am certainly not someone who personally knows anthing about thoracic outlet syndrome.  I'm not sure where the best place to post this is either.  But I do know that sometimes drs. switch pain relievers when it seems like one is not working. It appears our body becomes immuned to the medicine's affect.

Gabapentin is the generic of neurontin.  My drug book says it is prescribed for seizures.  But I'm thinkig I know peope ho take it for nerve ending pain. (neuropathy).

Hiya!!
I take 1800 mg of Neurontin a day.  In addition to being used for seizures, it is also prescribed for nerve pain.  It is a pretty effective med, if you take it every day.  I didn't have good luck with Lyrica (zero help)  The trick with the Neurontin is to get it to the right level.  I hope this helps.
