Lupus and drug allergies

My rheumatologist says there is a possibility that I have either lupus or sjogrens.  I have a positive Ana and positive DNA .  I also have occasional joint pain and extreme fatigue.  Doctor wants tonstart me on plaquenil.  I am currently having a reaction to synthroid so they wont start me on the plaque nil until I have that situation taken care of first.  I also have multiple drug allergies.  My questions are, is delaying the plaque nil going to make a big difference and does anyone else with lupus have multiple drug allergies.  Also allergic to prednisone,!!!!!!!

I'm pretty sure a postive DNA is very specific to lupus dx.

I think delaying the plaquinel would be alright at this point.  It doesn't sound like you have organ involovement.  Your dr. is probably taking the right approach.  You don't want to start too many meds all at the same time.

Hi, I have rheumatoid arthritis, i have allergies to lots of drugs. I have taken plaquenil before and went off it due to constant diahorrea. But it was fine other than this. I think all of these drugs are important to keep your joints from getting more damage. This won't make a huge difference as long as you take something to prevent future damage. Hope this helps. Good luck with the allergy and i hope they find the right drug for you.

I don't know how long you tried Plaquinel, but the worst of the diarrhea is only supposed to last about 6 weeks.  I have diarrhea anyway, so it was nothing new.  I take a herb that keeps that at bay.

I have a friend who also has RA  She went on Plaquinel and said she feels like she has more energy.  I have noticed the difference in her too.

I have some itching, but it certainly is not constant.  Not all itching is allergy related.  Some causes include anemia, liver problems, hodgkin's, leukemia, and renal failure.  I'm sure this is not an exhaustive list, but just so you understand that other (more serious) things can also cause itching.  Please let your dr. know.
