My chances

My chances

I'm always feeling sick. I get general stabbing pains that are not always the same amount of pain. some days It hurts more than others and now and then I can go a day without pain. I have hade these problems for years and i've just lived with it. recently I went to get it checked along with my back pains. and was tested for Lupus. it was only the initial test but I tested positive. my grandfather is living with Lupus and I wonder what my chances of really having it are.

just thinking that I might have it scares me. I've never had anything. never even broke a bone. I don't know what type of Lupus they will test for. and for now I'm trying not to google it. though I couldn't stop myself from looking up its affects on pregancy. I got so scared reading that is can cause a high risk pregnancy. I'm not pregnant but i know I want kids at some point in my future. Its really important to me that I can have a family eventually. and reading it scared me. I'm not even sure if its Lupus. I hear that the initial test has a good chance of being a false positive. and right now, thats all I'm hoping for.

No one I've talked to close to me has much to say for support besides "your grandpa is doing fine and he has it" though I do worry to much.

thank you for listening.

There are many test for Lupus. Some people test for years and never get a positve test and they have Lupus, some test positive and they don't.  Your doctor will give you a diagnosis after you fufill several criteria.  The Lupus Foundation of America  www.lupus.org  has a great website and it explains all of the signs symptoms you must have for a "Positive" diagnosis. Even if you are diagnosed living with the disease is possible.  They have a lot of treatments out there, much more than even 10 years ago.  My mother was diagnosed in the 70's and still lived quite a while, and that was before all of the medical advances and treatments. The internet is full of info, but if you don't know enough about it you will just scare yourself.  Stay in communication with your Dr....if needed he will send you to a specialist and they will know what to do.  I hope this helps

thankyou. my doctor is already setting up an appointment with a specialitst and organizing a few more tests. the first of which is a DNA work up. other than that I don't want to see what Lupus can do until I know whether or not I have it.

Thank you for your support. :)
