Rare disorder

Re: Brain Explosion Disorder, all of a sudden I woke up with a very loud Boom noise in my head, I thought I might be having a Stroke as my Mother & Grandma has many Strokes. I was afraid to go back to sleep for fear of it happening again. I told my Sister In Law who told me to Google Brain Explosion Disorder and there it was my exact problem. If you are familiar with this, do they know what causes it at all?? I already have OCD just what I need is a new problem......

hello,

sorry to hear that your having problems!! i too have the same thing!! i'll lay down to fall asleep and i get a very very loud explosion sound, but its comming from my own head!!! its the strangest thing ever!!! this is actually a rare problem with people, more women than men. its called exploding head syndrom (syndrome) or auditory sleep starts. some people get a bright flash of light with it. i do sometimes. the only thing is, i started out with just the noise and flash, but now i'm having siezures as well. not sure if they are related, but, it scares the  hell out of me. i had the noises and flashes happening to me every so often at the begining, but then they became more and more frequent. then some months later, i layed down to go to sleep, and within minutes, i was paralyzed!!! i could not speak, move, or even open my eyes!!! i was like this for probably 3-5 minutes, but it seemed like forever. so this would happen to me every so often. it would scare me so bad that i refused to sleep the nights it happened. i thought maybe i had sleep paralysis, but if you read about that, it happens to people who lay on their backs. i always lay on my sides due to back issues. also, sleep paralysis happens when people are trying to sleep, with me, this happens to me as soon as my head hits the pillow, within seconds.i know that i'm not sleeping or dreaming. i didn't even have a chance to fall asleep, i was still get situated for it. so i know i dont have sleep paralysis!!! so the whole exploding inside my head thing would happen, along with the paralyzing thing for a couple years. now, this year, i was having my routine crazy spells at night, but this time, i was able to open my eyes right before it hit me, then i started to shake uncontrollably and my body was twisting all over the place. i could not move my eyes to look around, i could only stare at the wall in front of me as i was laying on my side. i was stuck like this for awhile, seemed like forever. it actually woke my hubby up, and he's a heavy sleeper. i could hear him screaming my name, and i could see him looking at me, but i could not respond at all!!! i was paralyzed completly and was shaking like crazy. i have consulted 4 different doctors about this in the past. none of them ever head of this. i actually had one doctor tell me it could be a spiritual thing. i was thinking...WHAT??? now that the shaking has started along with the other stuff, they think i'm having some sort of seizure. i'm actually being sent to a sleep study for an EEG. all in all, my family doctor thinks it may be part of my other list of symptoms, and i have a long list,  for lupus. these episode only hit me every so often. sometimes i have them 3 nights in a row, and sometimes i won't have any for months. i don't see a pattern with them. i know none of my meds are causing them. its the strangest thing. if i were you, i would consult with your doctor, let him/her know whats going on. that way, if something more comes of it, like me, they will have a history of these events. at first, my doctors didn't take them seriously at all, and they looked at me as though i was a nut. i switched doctors, and now i have a wonderful one that listens and tries to help me. i hope that your problem doesn't turn into seizues like mine did. i started to keep a diary of the episodes, i thought maybe there was a link. maybe you should do the same, wouldn't hurt. this web site helped me understand these strange events a little....

i hope that you find the answers you need soon!! i will pray for you, and just remember to keep your chin up. when these events happen to you, get up, walk around your house and shake it off. i know how scary it is, believe me. i hope things get better for you, have a great night!!!
