Resources for the uninsured

I was diagnosed with SS and FMS at 17. At that time my Dr. didn't want to "label" me with the lupus dx even though I fit the syptoms (symptoms) and he treated me with Plaquinil. After doing the medication treatment for 5 years, most of the more lupus symtoms (symptoms) when away. Which was all good since I had health insurance. The problem is that I lost my health insurance over a year ago. At first I thought I would be ok but I have been hopsitalized for a infection they have no idea what it was and after turning 30 I have been having alot more symptoms than ever. I have attempted to get private health insurance, disabilty, school health insurance and group health and was denied every time. Does anyone know of any programs or something that are available so I can go see a doctor or get meds? Any help woud be great.

I'm so glad you asked these questions!
If we share information with others, more people can be helped!
I lost my job a couple of weeks ago, so I'm going to have to utilize these resources too!
So I hope you get lots of good feedback ~ and others in others states will share too!

So here are a couple of resources / ideas that I am aware of:

PPA.org 800-477-2669 Partnership for Prescription Assistance can help you get your medications from the manufacturers/pharmaceutical companies to your doctors, generally in 90-day supply's.

Also, if you have internet access, with/or without a printer,
log in to the web and look up the web sites available for your individual medications.

All Med/pharmaceutical companies have programs for people that need help paying for their medicines. Most times, you can get your medications for free, others may require a copy of your tax return, or a statement of your financial status and insurance information.
If you're not satisfied with the requirements for a single medication, look for more than one manufacturer until you find a provider that will meet your individual needs.

Really, that's about all I have to offer for med's... Doctor's and clinics may provide samples. There may also be free clinics, or faith based community clinics in your area.
Sometimes the Senior Disabled services in your area may be able to direct you, or possible the Dept of Human Services. Call around and ask some questions!

If you don't have the internet or use a computer, often the senior center, the library, a neighbor, friend, may be able to assist you. Or post something here. I'm sure you'll find someone that can print these applications for medicine for you.
I hope this helps ~ we should all have our basic needs met, especially for our medical care!      Peace & Respect ~ Woshi.
