Sun and lupus

usually when im in the sun a bit my symptoms get worse and im prone to sun poisoning and stuff. a few days ago
i was in the sun a lot and a day or 2 later i started feeling a lot worse and im still just feeling worse and worse. do you think being in the sun that long for one day could have triggered another flare? does anyone have any good ideas for avoiding sun during outdoor activities?

Hi Faye, and welcome to medhelp.

I have bunches of trouble when I get in the sun.  It is really hard for me because I love working in the yard.  But I have a lot of shade trees, so that helps.  I have found that there is not enough sun screen to screen all that needs to be screened for lupus people.  The only thing that might help is a big umbrella or a big hat.  I honestly haven't found anything that helps.

If you will check at your local sporting goods store or online at major retailers like BassPro-Dicks Sporting Goods etc there are UVA clothing options also available that you can use in addition to sunscreen.

They are primarily geared toward outdoor enthusiasts (like fishermen)who spend alot of time on the lake-they have hats, long and short sleeve shirts, and even fingerless gloves-all made in lightweight but UVA/UVB repellant line.

There is a Dicks here locally in my area and they carry the line in the store-one of the brands that produces it is Columbia.

Hope this helps and offers you more choices.
