Tatoos & Lupus

I've been told that if you have the gene for lupus, getting a tatoo will trigger the disease.  Is that true and is there a blood test that can identify if you have the pre-disposition or gene for lupus.

No there is unfortunately not currently any medical/genetic testing to rule out if SLE could possibly be in your future or if you carry the gene to pass on.The medical field is still debating exactly what does cause the disease to trigger at last read I believe they think it is a combination of genetics,trauma/illness,and exposure to environmental or other actors that all lumped together cause the illness to become apparent and activate enough to cause issue,make you feel ill enough to seek help from a dr.

As for the tattoo issue I would not see any reason that would cause a start of SLE.I would think that if you DID ALLREADY HAVE IT and were in a flare up period where you were ill it would be advisable to wait until you were better as if it were a large tattoo that required hours or multiple visits the combo of sitting,pain,healing would most likely make you feel worse but tattoos wont give you Lupus.I have several and would like to add more rheumy has seen them and has never said they were the cause,the start,or not to get another.
