Tx for Lupus

I recently had a high ANA level come back with a positive for Lupus. The Dr thinks it is Vesicular Lupus. He has scheduled me for a brain MRI. He also put me on Amitriptaline which has really thrown me for aloop after only 2 pills and they are only 25mg tabs. Has anyone else been on or heard of Amitriptaline HCL being a tx for lupus ?? or for Lupus sx ? I am a nurse but dealt mostly with Hospice patients. Thanks for any input.

I am not a Doctor but I do have Lupus and my Doctor also put me on Amitriptaline. Now that was a few yrs back and I know that it wasn't for the Lupus itself, she told me that it was to help with the pain.

Thanks for the answer. I currently do not have pain, but I do have MAJOR mood swings and with 4 children and a wonderful partner I knew it was just not me to act like this. That is why they are doing a Brain MRI on the 10th to see how far it is in the brain and what exactly it is affecting. Thanks for the response. What type of pain are you having and where ?? I am having some lower back pain but not sure if it is my tumors in my spine or my kidneys (FYI 2 years ago they found kidney stones but they were not bothering me so I chose to do nithing about them) I just have a lot of unanswered questions about things they have found and what is going on with my body. My family can not afford to have anything wrong with me I am what holds it together. There is just me, my partner and our four children . No Grandparents or aunts or uncles, ect.

I was on amitriptaline as well when I was 16 years old. Idk the way your body will react to this medication, but for me personally all this medication did was make things worse emotionally. I was a Jr in highschool and ended up gaining 60lbs in 3 months. With in a year, I went from 115 lbs to 217 lbs. Yes..over a years time period I gained 100+lbs total. I am not trying to be negative in any way, and like I said I don't know if you will even have the same reaction I did but I just want to make sure that you know the pros and cons of the medication so that it doesn't emotionally make things worse on you like it did for me. I have lower back pain and I get arthritis pain on my hands and feet really bad. I also have a family and I got so sick that my husband, bless his heart does everything in the house, he had become a very good cook, our girl are grown the youngest one is 16 so and the middle one is 21 and still live with us and the oldest one has her own family so they, but he cleans the house and takes care of everything that I use to do. There has been times that I can not move at all and he will carry me to the shower and shower me..I am blessed with such a wonderful man.

I know how it feels to rely on someone's help when having difficult days. Personally, Im not sure what I would do if it weren't for my parents help. Although I am truly sorry that you are going through the pain your dealing with @ this time, it makes me happy to know that you have such a wonderful and loving family like you have explained. It sounds like they love you more than life and i can see how truly grateful you are to have them in your life as well.
