I have had severe sleep issues, pain and swelling of my joints, migraines, and now depression. I have seen a counselor and psychiatrist since my doctor had said this was all related to the depression. However since none of the meds given to me by psych worked;they all agree there must be an underlying issue. I just recd my lab results back and have a positive ANA screen, a speckled/homogeneo ANA pattern, and ANA titre of 1:80.
My doctor is telling me to try a sleep study to see if this will give any help. In the meantime I am on no meds for the muslce pain/spasms and they are getting worse, especially at night and in the early morning.
My counselor says I should seek other opinion. Do any of the lab results suggest something that I should be concerned about. At the point, I feel like i am going insane.
I am sorry to hear about your medical problems. Well, generally an ANA titer of 1:80 is considered a "low positive" and is not confirmatory of any disease. More tests are usually required to confirm the diagnosis. Most of people with 1:80 ANA do not have SLE or any other autoimmune disorder. However all results have to be clinically co-related. So, since there are symptoms of an autoimmune disorder at 1:80 in your case, this can be taken as confirmatory for disease. You will need further antibody testing to confirm or rule out lupus etc.
Other than this, the muscle spasms and joint pains etc can also be due to low iron, low calcium or magnesium, low vitamin D, electrolyte imbalance, diabetes or thyroid disorders.
Since you have sleep problems, yes, a sleep study will help diagnose the cause.
Please consult your doctor regarding this. Take care!

I have had all other lab test to r/o abnormal levels of vitamins, anemia, diabtes, thyroid disease, etc. Dr. says all came back totally normal. The only abnormalities are the ANA results. I am now on Prednisone for 2 wks and he says this should work. However he did order more testing for Lyme disease, ESR, and other labs for arthritis.
He I don't have a diagnosis soon; I feel that the sporadic pain, joint pain swelling as well as an unusual sleep pattern maybe the end of me.
thank you for your help
