Why would your Rheumatologist take you OFF the Plaquenil becuase you are going to the eye doctor? The whole point of my eye dr visits are to make sure the Plaquenil is not negatively affecting my eyes! Plaquenil can cause blindness if not caught early. So people on Plaquenil usually get checkups 2x/yr to try to catch that before it's too late. So it seems to me taking you OFF the Plaquenil for the eye visits, defeats the purpose of going.

Plus it takes so long to get back on the Plaquenil! Seem suspicious to me.

As for your tests. I have no clue. I used to plug my results into search engines and get explainations of what the test is for and what are normal limits. Can your doctor not explain it better?

Thanks PiperW for responding.NO the reason she took me off was because I haven't seen the Optamalogist in 2 years I guess. But I thought it was only 1year.But yes I really don't get the part of taking me off the pill either.I'm  Dx's with Sjorgrens also so I think that is the reason.
I have a Dr. appt. tomorrow and that is why I was hoping someone could explain my test results so I realy know what questions to ask.I still have a few hours for someone to come by.
Thanks again,
Mary

Question _ what was your ANA and pattern?

Of course the sjorgrens is self explainatory as well as the rheumatic factor.

The RNP is pointing to mixed connective tissue.  This is where a person has the criteria for SLE as well as another autoimmune disorder.  They tend to have puffy hands, complain of heartburn and swallowing problems and scarring of the lungs seen on chest x-ray, and raynaud's.

I don't think the Ds DNA is considered elevated.  (Let me know if I'm wrong on that)

The normal levels of GFR-Non African American is >60, so you are good on that one.

I will have to research the CHROMATIN AB lGg and get back with you.

Hope this helps.

I agree w/ Piper, but w/ your dr. too.  Although I think your dr. could've stress the importance w/o taking you off Plaquinel (unless you were having symptoms of retina detachment.)  YES, YES...It is very important to get your eyes examined every 6 months.

Blessings, Kara

I found a web site that discussed the Chromatin, but it was difficult to understand.  From what I gathered, it helps w/ the dx of SLE and drug induced SLE.  I think IgG means you were exposed to this antibody in the past..  Maybe someone with a degree could answer that part of the equation.

http://www.rdlinc.com/catalog/clinical

Chromatin is comprised of native DNA wrapped around the (H2A-H2B-H3-H4)2 histone octamer, with histone H1 and some non-histone proteins associated. The presence of chromatin antibodies can be used in conjunction with clinical findings and other laboratory tests to aid in the diagnosis of drug-induced lupus (DIL) and Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE).

Thank you Thank you,for responding.Yes when I was first Dx's in 2001 results came back with Speckled Pattern.I just got off the phone with my Rheumatologist and she is having more blood drawn to test C3-C4,C50, and DSDNA.
I think she also said lGg what is this for and DSDNA all Lupus. My ANA is 160 what does this mean?
And I did see the Opthamologist and my tear ducts right eye 3% and left 9% and yes she is putting me back on Plaquenil today.
Thank you for the website also and for responding to my questions.Sorry it took so long to get back but I was in bed for a couple days.

Thanks again,
Mary

Sorry it took me so long to reply.  Busy, then I got very sick.

The complement test (C3 C4 and C50) test kidney function.  If they are low they indicate kidney involvement.

Ds-DNA would indicate whether the lupus is very active.  A negative doesn't necessarily mean you do not have lupus, but a possitive means the disease is active.

An ANA of 160 is not very elevated.  When mine was 160, the dr. said it was nothing.  Only when it was 640 that she wrote "significant" out beside it.  But still didn't tell me it was significant.  Some drs. want organ involvement before they give a dx or even start treatment.  I'm thankful for a dr. that don't think that way.

You have several other labs pointing them in that direction.  One being the RNP and the Sm antibodies.

I do have two questions. Why did they have you on plaquinel?  And what have you been dx with so far?
