Antibiotics Flagyl and Zithro

Antibiotics Flagyl and Zithro

I am to be on Flagyl 500mg 2x per day and Zithro 250mg 2x per day. I am already finding that I can barely eat even if I wait 2 hours after taking the meds. I find that if I wait more like 4-6 hours I can do better, but it's still shaky. I will be on them for at least 3 months. I need to take more tests again in a month to see if my CD57 goes up higher and my C 4a goes down and my thyroid is better.

Just curious to know what others have experience being on these drugs? Has anyone CD57 level increased after taking their antibiotics? I take Florastor and drink Kefir for probiotics.

Sorry haven't been on those yet.  My dr is switching me to pulse three different abx now, but I haven't got them yet, and I don't remember which ones they are.

Good luck with it!

When you say you can barely eat, do you mean you can't wait to eat, or you don't want to eat?

Do you have to wait after taking meds before you can eat?  I was on those same meds and I think I took them with food, but don't remember for sure now.

So what's happening?  Sorry to hear it's a rough start!

I've been on both but only on the Flagyl for a few days due to side effects.

I started zith back in Feb and still take it.  It has been effective for me, particularly with my Bartonella symptoms.  I'm on 2 other abx as well.  I've not taken flagyl.

My LLMD told me to take zith with food.  Other abx need to be taken without food.  Mino can't be taken with dairy, and I think the same goes for doxy.  Ask your doc/pharmacist if you're unsure about how to take meds.

I take both Flagyl and Zithro about 2 hours after I eat, but at that point I can barely eat lunch. I take just a few bites of food and I get bad stomach spasms. I find if I wait 6-8 hours after taking the medicine I am fine. I also don't even really feel like I have an appetite anymore.

I have been on those same meds in the past, and I just looked at the labels on them.

The Flagyl says "Take With Food" and the Zith says "Take With Or Without Food".

That's what I remember doing:  taking them with food.

Two hours after eating, I think you stomach may have emptied out already, so you are in effect taking the meds on an empty stomach.

Have you tried taking the meds WITH meals or a sizeable snack?  I normally eat about half my meal and then take the meds, then finish eating and drink a good size glass of whatever.

You might try that and see if it helps.  Let us know!
