As if we didn't have enough

How many of you are aware that between 1955 and 1963, those of use old enough, which I am, were given polio vaccines contaminated with Simian Virus 40, a cancer causing virus.  Google SV40 and you'll find some interesting information on how those vaccines were prepared, talk about a frankenlab!  And you'll find out this government lab in New Orleans was studying (weaponizing) the virus and had some interesting employees, namely Lee Harvey Oswald and Jack Ruby.  I'm posting this here because all the little things we think we feel moving in us may not be Lyme and its coinfections.  In the future, if I'm told I'll die without a vaccination, I'll take my chances!

Bob, It is an eye opener for many.

Fortunately or unfortunately, depends how it's viewed, I'm pretty familiar with  pseudo-science and health, (big) special interests and the complex -often dysfunctional interaction of science, politics, business and society in modern times.
Health research  bankrolled by petrochemical and pharmaceutical companies, among others, "in bed" with various government agencies, are affecting modern society with 2 lethal diseases: self-interest (power and greed) and secrecy!

And most of you  here in the Lyme Disease Community are victims of these mechanisms. I'm left wondering what will it take to change all this.

Perhaps it's time to start making some noise!
(My former PCP lost his medical licence and the former Member of Parliament in my riding lost in the previous elections and I'm happy
that I was actively involved in exposing both of them for their conduct)
Enough said.

Cheers Everyone!

But there were researchers that knew!  Greed however won out and it was dumped on us.  Much too hastily done.  Truthfully, I imagine the big die off I triggered, the one that filled my legs, was a lymphocytic cancer. Truly a stealth pathogen, that had most all of of lymph ducts clogged.   You know what's worse than me?  Children that are still getting cancers from contamination of the vaccine, like the "almost 3yr old" in the link above.   I think our government and big pharma owes us an explanation and perhaps some compensation.  There's no proof they saved me from polio, only knew one fellow in my little town that had it, wound up with only a limp.  He's still going strong.  Me, I'm tired of being a ecosystem for microvermin, of any variety, God willing, I'll find a way to kill them all!  Might do myself in in the process, but I feel what I need is out there in the 6000 acres of woods he left me in.

Do you have any idea how easy it would be to weaponize a mycoplamsa that would specifically alter this virus, get it to morph into something else, maybe something that would take away the great concern big pharma has about the possible 18.9 million claims against them?  I already know that mycoplasmas can do this to this type of virus.

Thanks, Bob.

I don't know that there's anything we can do about it now, and I'm among those who would have received the vaccine in one or more of the places mentioned above.

It is what it is, and if you remember the annual summer fears of polio epidemics back then, and had friends (children and adults) who ended up dead or crippled in leg or body braces or 'iron lungs', then you will remember that the vaccine was a blessing -- and in those days there was little to no understanding of cancer's link to viruses, and indeed it's still being figured out.

(Interestingly, I just read this morning about a current Broadway play based on the life of a man [still living] who contracted polio as a kid in the 1950s and has spent most of his life in an iron lung -- I think the play is a riff on how he managed to have a sex life through surrogacy or something (?!).

I had one girlfriend in grade school who had a heavy leather-and-iron leg brace for her shriveled lower leg due to polio; another guy friend who had what looked like big beer belly in his teens, but it was because polio had paralyzed his abdominal muscles and his gut sagged badly; an adult friend of my parents who was paralyzed from the waist down from polio and had extensive, heavy [pre-plastics] leather-and-iron leg braces so she could walk in a fashion, and when she got pregnant at last, she had to have a new set of back and abdominal braces made every so often during the pregnancy to support her spine and her growing baby-belly.

Next to nothing was known about viruses back then, and the knowledge we take for granted now simply did not exist about how viruses worked and how to battle them.  We are still learning.

So to beef about the days when a microscope and a test tube were all docs had to work with (no computers!  no electron microscopes!  the structure of DNA itself not known until the 1960s!) is just a bit much imo.

It's good to be aware that some of us might be affected in this way by vaccines we were given back then, but it beat dying from polio, and the docs didn't have the means to know that the monkeys might carry something that could later harm us.

According to the National Institutes of Health, high levels of SV40 were identified in polio vaccines in Washington, Oregon, Wyoming, Utah, Minnesota, Iowa, Wisconsin, Illinois, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Washington DC, Maryland, Delaware, New York, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, Vermont and New Hampshire. Low levels of SV40 were found in California, Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado, Texas, Kansas, Nebraska, North Dakota, Missouri, Louisiana, Georgia, Tennessee, Kentucky, Ohio, and West Virginia. Polio vaccines in the other states showed no SV40 present.

And, because of the cost involved, they went ahead and gave them too us!  Worse yet is the SV40 is in the population now, and contagious!  I apologize, I should move on to the cancer section.  But I wanted people who I care about, those who have been helpful and supportive of me to be aware.

Crud can't find where I was reading how Salk passed the polio virus through several different monkey tissues, to include testicles.  If mom had known that, I don't imagine I would have got it.  Could be a major factor in the cancer boom!  98 million of us, it is estimated, received the contaminated vaccine.  Dr. Mary's Monkeys is an interesting read too.

Well, in those days there was no other way to create a vaccine, was there?

The idea was to give someone a small case of a less serious infection, which would trigger an immune system reaction that would then help you resist infection from a nastier bug .... like Jenner noticing (~200 years ago) that milkmaids who got 'cow pox' were largely immune from the much worse smallpox.

I don't know that 'live vaccine' is used anymore in any vaccination like it used to be, now with the ability to used killed bacteria or viruses, which trigger an immune response which is also effective against the same bugs in live condition.

Wiki has a nice write up on 'vaccine', explaining how it works and why it sometimes doesn't work (tho 'herd immunity' is helpful, so that if most people in a population are immune, then it reduces the chance that those who are not immune will get infected.  It used to be that vaccines were often grown in chicken eggs, and those who were allergic to eggs couldn't take the vaccine, so they had to rely on herd immunity.  I had a sibling with allergies like that.)

So ... I would still take vaccinations, just because the diseases are so much worse, but that's just me!
