Chronic Lyme?

Hi,

Can anyone help???, I have 2 reactive lyme bands, 31 and 41.

Also;

EBV Nuclear Antigen Ab, IgG >600.0 High
EBV Ab VCA, IgG >600.0 High
EBV Early Antigen Ab, IgG 34.0 High
HHV 6 IgG Antibodies 8.65 High

I have been to more doctors in the he last 2 years, than in my entire life.  I believe I may have chronic lyme. I am a 51 year old female living with the same man for 25 years in Orlando, FL.

The chart I use to interpret test meanings says if these bands 31 and/or 41 are positive, then ...

-- Band 31 indicates the presence of "outer surface protein A (OspA), specific for Bb [Borrelia burgdorferi, the scientific name for Lyme disease]. Has cross-reactivity with several different types of viruses."

[Note:  Being "specific" means that there are no other creatures carrying OspA but the Lyme bacteria.  Therefore finding Band 31 means you have found Lyme.]

-- Band 41 is the "flagellin [whip-like tail] protein of all spirochetes [including Lyme bacteria]; this is usually the first to appear after a spirochete [that is, a spiral-shaped bacterial] infection but is NOT specific to Lyme...."  Therefore finding Band 41 could be Lyme, or might be something else.

I'm not medically trained, but I would see a Lyme doc and take those IGeneX tests along.

Best wishes, and let us know what you hear back, okay?

You are so very nice! Thank you for all of the ideas! Their great! I've started searching for more information. I do have the full report from IGeneX, it showed the positive bands 31 and 41 but, not positive for Lyme.

Hugs, back!

I just saw your post above ... sorry for the delay.

I just now searched for   --   lyme orlando --    and got several possible search terms to try.  Within each of those searches, there are likely quite a few Lyme specialists.  Snooping around on websites is often a useful way to collect data about which doc you might want to see.

Also search for:

  florida lyme disease association
  northeast florida lyme disease association
  orlando lyme doctor
  orlando lyme disease

It may be that there are a number of Lyme specialists in or near Orlando who are *not* ILADS members, thus the short list you were finding.  It is not necessary to be an ILADS member, but it is a useful tag to gauge the doc's experience and point of view.

If you do not have a full copy of the IGeneX test from the doc you saw, call the office and request a full copy, not a summary of the test results 'for my files.'  You don't need to tell them you are thinking of looking for another MD for a second opinion:  it's none of their business, imo.

Please let us know how it goes, and we'll keep brainstorming till you are comfortable with the situation, okay?  I remember being in the spot you are in, and it can seem so hard ... but partly that's the ailment messing with you.  Take care!  You can do it ... and you're not alone, you know.  We've all been where you are, in some way or another.

Hugs!

I have received the information from ILADS but, the list only had 3 Doctors within my 100 mile range and they do not take insurance. I did see 1 of the doctors who did the Lyme test with IGENEX. Since I only showed 2 reactive bands, 31 and 41 he said I didn't have Lyme.

Thanks again, and Love your site

P.S. Have you heard anything about Morgellons?

If you email to --

                               contact [at] ILADS [dot] com

-- and tell them you would like a referral to a Lyme specialist within [__] miles of Orlando, you might get a jump on things.

I'm NOT medically trained ... but fwiw:

The medication (Famciclovir) you mention appears NOT to be used against bacterial infections (like Lyme), but instead is used against *viral* infections.  Bacteria and viruses are entirely different forms of life, and to my understanding, meds that treat viral infections will not cure bacterial infections like Lyme.

Please consider finding a Lyme specialist for a second opinion.  It is what I would do for myself or my family.

My symptoms have been skin related, fungal, parasites, fatigue, UTI. An endless nightmare. My doctor has been trying FAMCICLOVIR 500MG. I'm taking ....2 in the AM and 1 in the PM. He has been increasing the dose over the last 6months. Things have been getting better.... but, not good enough. Thank you for taking the time!!!!

... and what does your doc say about those test results?

From a website called truthaboutlymedisease (first posted a couple of years ago), an explanation of what your two positive bands could well indicate:

Band 31 -- This is evidence of OspA, which is short for 'outer surface protein A'.  This band is specific to Borrelia burgdorferi, which is the scientific name for the bacteria that cause Lyme disease.  'Specific' means that *only* the presence of Lyme disease can cause a positive for a bacterial infection on Band 31.

Band 41 -- This is a protein found only in the little whip-like tail of spiral-shaped bacteria, including Lyme bacteria.

'EBV' is short for Epstein-Barr virus, which is not Lyme, but indicates another infection.

'HHV' is short for 'human herpes virus', which is an infectious virus in the herpes virus category.  There are several different herpes viruses, and your doc can give you more information about what yours might be and how to deal with them.

Sorry not to help more, but your doc is the person with the information.  Please let us know what you find out -- and all good wishes to you!
