Is it Lyme Disease?

Is it Lyme Disease?

I was recently diagnosed with Swine flu which then progressed into some Pnirmonic infection.

I have experienced bereathing difficulties, temperatures, palpatations, acute sinus pain and discharge, week legs and difficulty in walking more that a few hundred yards. I feel generally very unwell and have done now for about 7 weeks. I have also experienced chills and a lot of discomfort around my liver area, and stomach bloating, also a coug, somtimes dry and sometines loose. the Back of my nexk is also fery uncomfortable. I have had much discomfort accross the chest and accross my shoulder blades and down my ribs at the back on my right side.

I have had blood tests with revealed raised liver function levels, raised CRL, and raised white cell count..

After a co8uple of weeks i was prescribed Erythamyicine, and when tht made no difference, Ofaloxcin.

After the Ofaloxcin, my white cell came down, and i felt  a bit better for a feew days, then it all came back and my cell count's rose again.

I am waithing to be seen at the Centre for Infectious Diseases on Thursday and i don't know if i can hang on.

Question; Cound this be Lyme disease, as i was at a festival at the end of June in Glastonbry, England, and was camping. I suddenly had pain in my back a month after Glastonbury ,which lasted for 3 days, then disappeared, then about 4 weeks later all the above symptoms started.

I 'mnot aware of being bitten by a tick.

Please can anyone help me with some suggestions?

I'd suggest you try to find an MD who is more broadminded about Lyme and be tested if you are concerned.

We have at least one poster here who is in the UK, I believe.

H Jackie, thaniks for taking the time to reply to me. My Doctor's are mystified at the moment, hence the referal.

i'm pretty fit usually and i'm probably being a bit of a whimp.

You're welcome.  But don't downplay how you are feeling -- none of that famous English understatement, all right?  Unfortunately trying to be brave makes MDs think we're not really ill, and then they don't take it at all seriously.

So we're stuck trying to be brave so we ourselves don't panic, while still presenting our illness accurately to the doctors so they don't ignore us.

You have a bunch of symptoms, and it's good to get it all considered.  There are a number of tick-borne diseases, and you can indeed have one or more than one, which makes diagnosis just that much more difficult...and Lyme has such a wide variety of symptoms that it's hard to know for certain, on top of the tests not being very accurate at all.

Let us know how you do and what the ID doctor says --

I don't know whether you have lyme or not but I think it is good you are seeing a specialist.  Sometimes people can get a post-viral syndrome that causes those symptoms too.  Hopefully the doctor will be able to tell you.

I also had elevated liver enzymes at the beginning.

Hi Jackie,

I visited the CID today and they are going to test me for a number of  things, one of them being Lyme Disease, so i have to wait 6 weeks for the results.

Thanks again for your interest last weekend.

Simon.

Hi Patsy,

went along to the CIDiseases today, and they are going to test me for Lyme Disease and a host of other things. I should get the results in 6 weeks. Unfortunately my bood pressure is pretty high at the moment, but hopefully it's all related, because normally my bood pressure is perfect.

The Dr also mentoned about Post Viral Syndrome as well.

Thanks for your interest last weekend.

Simon.

I'd suggest you get copies of all your test results everywhere you are seen and keep your own personal file.  With diseases like Lyme that different drs have different opinions about, what seems like an okay test to one MD might say something entirely different to another MD.

It's all medical detective work, and keeping your own files of the 'clues' for all your 'detectives' to see is, in my opinion, very necessary.

Keep us posted.
