Sorry, I hit 'send' too soon and should have added:
Lyme disease is one of the bacterial infections carried by ticks, and quite often, a tick carries one or more of those additional infections. The symptoms overlap among those infections, and it takes a wise MD to know what to look for in ordering tests. These various infections often need different meds from Lyme to be effective. Docs who are not experts in Lyme etc. may well not have the ability to figure what to test for and then what to treat with, since the same med for Lyme does not necessarily kill other infections carried by the ticks.
Welcome to MedHelp Lyme -- you're in good company here: we've all been through some version of what you are going through.
Lyme has a variety of effects on each person, partly because everyone's immune system is a bit different, and also because of the possibility that the 'Lyme' tick carried with it one or more additional infections.
Did your doc do blood tests on you for Lyme, or just say that it looked like Lyme? It is not unusual for extra infections (called as a group 'co-infections') to come along in a bite from a 'Lyme' tick.
I was diagnosed with Lyme disease. 8 months ago. I've been sick for 2 years. I recently had a low vitamin d level and Tue doctor gave me 50,000 units a week it made me very I'll and switched me to 2,000 a week. I also had a low vitaim be count I take a 1000 mg a day. Does anybody have a low red blood cell count because mine was low also. I never had any of this until my diagnosis
well, if I were you and it was my joints hurting....
I would fire your GP and find a doctor who is EDUCATED in Lyme disease and all the Tick-Borne Illnesses.
This doc refuses you testing???? nothing more than arrogant and rude..bet his joints don't ache!!!
There is sooooo much information on what causes lyme and all the diseases that mimic lyme.
for instance, I was diagnosed with MS years ago: I read about MS being caused by an infection; and guess what? I am in treatment now and getting my health back.
