Massage?

Massage?

I read somewhere that Lymies shouldn't have deep tissue massages.  Does anyone know about this?  I read that it can rupture or break loose lyme cysts and make people feel worse.   Is this true!!??/  Crazy... I know but... I had a massage (deep tissue.. that I must say HURT LIKE HELL), and literally the next day is when I noticed the cognitive problems and weakness.  Maybe it is just coincidence, but very strange.  I had had the slight numbness in my toes and the stiff painful neck shoulders prior, so I thought a massage would do me good.   NO!  The next day all everthing got worse!  That weekend I ended up in the ER due to weakness, numbness, and dizziness.    Don't think I'll be going back anytime soon.  If I do it'll be for a "gentle" massage :)

I forgot to add that she said my neck/shoulder, and chest muscles were VERY tight and that my skin was VERY Dehydrated.  Maybe lyme related ... or maybe just need more water?

I have not read this warning before.  I think a deep massage sounds wonderful, but maybe not for everyone.

With Lyme in general, there is still so much we (and the doctors) don't know.  A lot of "rules" like whether or not massage is safe/enjoyable varies with the individual.

For example, I can't take hot baths due to heat intolerance, whereas others may find a hot bath very relaxing and therapeutic.

As for breaking up Lyme cysts, I'm not sure what to say to that?  I thought the hypothesized cyst was a way for Lyme to hide from the immune system.  Wouldn't breaking it up through any means be good so that it would be susceptible to the immune system?

Here's a few sites talking about lyme and massage:

I had forgotten about my 'massages' - just rang a bell when I read 'skarey's' posts - the lady that does/did my massage said exactly the same thing - tight neck/head/chest muscles - she actually said 'your body feels stiff ' - and advised me to drink plenty of water.
Also I always felt worse for 3/4 days after - but at the time it did reduce my anxiety a lot - also had reflexology on my feet - which I doubted would 'do anything' for me - BUT as my left foot was being 'massaged' I felt 'something' ? go right up through my left side to my head - very unexpected - and a very 'nice/different' feeling inside !

So I would recommend reflexology - light massage.

I haven't read this myself but not saying it isn't true.  I have sore areas all over my back and my husband rubs them for me.  It helps the pain a lot.  He rubs pretty hard but I don't know if this would qualify as deep massage.

My hubby rubs my neck and shoulders too and it never makes me feel ill.  Maybe it was just a coincidence, but after I read that about others doing the same it made me wonder.  Anyways just wanted to share it with you all and see if you had any ideas or opinions on this.  I thought it kinda interesting.

Had something recommended on another forum called a trigger point massage. It was fine until the next day. I was very, very sore. I don't think that's good. I prefer accupressure. That seemed to really work.
