Pain in hands and toe (after fever)

Hi,

We are from India (Delhi) and my wife (34yrs old) had fever in Sep'10. Since than she is complaining about the pain in her hands and toes. Some times it is so difficult to even hold anything. She cannot put any sort of pressure on her hands. She finds it difficult to pick 2 year old child of ours and enable to walk straight or long stretches. Her Rheumatic test was negative (conducted last month).

Please suggest what could be the problem and whom (type of doctor) should we meet.

Thanks a lot for your time and suggest.

God Bless.

I am sorry to hear of your wife's illness.  No one here is medically trained, to my knowledge, so any advice we might give cannot be relied upon.  If you are concerned that she may have what in the U.S. is called Lyme disease (caused by the bacterium Borrelia burgdorferi, or Bb) or other tickborne diseases, you may wish to read information at the websites (listed below) to see if your wife's symptoms are similar.  There are said to be several hundred strains of Bb, and there are several significant diseases carried by the same ticks as Lyme, but those may vary geographically as well.

ILADS [dot] org -- this website is for the group International Lyme and Associated Disease Society and is written primarily for medical personnel, but is very accessible to patients as well.  Under the tab 'About Lyme' are several essays that you may find helpful.

The following websites are sponsored by patient groups and have different kinds of information:

lymediseaseassociation [dot] org
truthaboutlymedisease [dot] com
lymenet [dot] org
chroniclymedisease [dot] com
lymedisease [dot] org (California Lyme Disease Assn -- CALDA)

Best wishes to you and your family --
