I know that some meds interfere with other meds, but I understand that if there are a couple of hours separating them, then often it's okay -- the body has time to digest and spread out the first drug before the second one arrives. Depends on the drugs and supps, though -- not a 'one size fits all' answer.
Checking with your dr is the best thing, and sometimes websites like drugs [dot] com can give useful information. Pharmacists are also up on this stuff, more so than drs sometimes since pharmaceuticals is all the pharmacists do.
And of course, some meds should never be mixed with others -- confusing!
I am not medically trained, but this how I approach it for myself.
Has anyone else heard that taking magnesium and calcium supplements can limit the effectiveness of Doxycycline? I am a non-dairy person and need my extra calcium supplement, but have put it aside until I am done with the meds for a while. I read this somewhere, but was wondering if you might have too.
In addition to B12 and probiotics, I also take: B complex, vit. D, Magnesium, alpha lipoic acid, and vitamin C (I just added this recently because I'm eating less fruit due to stomach issues).
I don't take my supplements at the same time as abx, especially the probiotics. I try to space my Rx meds from supplements by at least 2 hours.
I recall that "EricaO" had a detailed list of supplements that she takes, you could go to her profile and look through her posts to find the list.
Are the probiotics Lactobacillus (sometimes several strains of it), or S. boulardii aka Florastor?
I take a multivitamin everyday, but otherwise am so bewildered by all the supplements that I don't take any of them! I'll be watching for the advice you get here. :)
