flagyl

Hey! Is anyone in the treatment stage of taking Flagyl instead of Doxy? I heard that is the next stage when you are feeling amazing and the infection is now in a heart cystic phase.

I have been feeling AMAZING and I am hoping (fingers crossed) that I get to go to the next treatment phase!!!!

What does everyone think?!?!?!?

Yes, I'm on flagyl and azithromycin.  I have Lyme and a co-infection, so I don't know which part is treating the Lyme and which part the co-infection.  I've been on this for 3 months so far.

The flagyl tends to give Herxes that are milder but last longer, which my dr advised and I found to be true.  And they get less and less intense over time.

Flagyl busts up the cysts wherever they are, and I can see the effect in my knees and in my head in particular.

The drug can be rough on the digestive system, but with probiotics it really didn't bother me until recently.  Makes my stomach rumble so loud other people can hear it, and can result in mild diarrhea and generally loose stools.  I'm being more careful to eat with the meds (esp. fatty foods seem to help:  eggs, cream cheese) and to drink a full bottle of water with the meds, which moves it through to the blood stream and out of my stomach faster.  Some plain calcium antacids help too, but you have to read the labels to be sure there isn't aluminum etc. in the antacids, because I understand they interfere with the antibiotics; best to ask your dr what you can take if you stomach is upset.

Sometimes I feel drowsy and not great about 2-4 hours after the dose, but it passes, and I do feel pretty sparkly then.

I am so much better than I was -- so the side effects are definitely worthwhile.  My thinking is clearer, I have more stamina and energy.  I get depressed a bit when I'm in a Herx, thinking it will never go away, but it does.

Good luck!  Keep us posted!

A lot of people get neurological side effects from flagyl.  I know it's important to kill cysts.  I'm scared of this medication.  I took it for a few days and got the worst migraine of my life.

It can't be any worse for me than the Doxy! Doxy gives me terrible terrible headaches, and I have to work my eating around when I can and can not have dairy!!!

I was scared too, and put off starting the flagyl, but really it's not bad at all.  I was worse on some earlier meds with worse Herxes.

I had told my LLMD I was nervous about the flagyl because I took it years ago for another ailment and it was misery, and he said that it was probably the other ailment that made me ill, not so much the flagyl.

Well, the LLMD was right!  The Herxes were no worse than on other drugs, and in fact, somewhat less, and now they are quite slight after 3 months.

Be brave!  Give it a try.  I know how you are feeling, believe me.  "Misery" is truly part of having and fighting Lyme.

I'm on flagyl now because of vaginitis and I want to have a baby could the vaginitis be the reason I'm not having one?

I'd ask your doctor or nurse --
