lyme meds

Morning,

Has anyone taken biaxin as part of the treatment for lyme?

I'm also asking if anyone knows how much this costs to fill. since my insurance company/HMO is not helping with this.

I'm seriuosly getting a part time job when I feel better to help pay for this.

Morning,
I want to thank you again for all the valuable help.

I know that the most difficult part of this was getting the diagnosis. I'm so glad to have that but now stuck with the scary thought of how to pay for treatment. I have some of it figured it and just need to relax and realize that things take time.

I will call my insurance company and see if they reimburse something for meds.

I can change insurance in Oct and can't wait to change to Blue Cross or something other than a ***************** HMO .

I'm going to check out Co st  co now and see what the deal is for joining etc.

Thanks again for all your  help.

and PS, you might call your insurance company and confirm that they won't reimburse anything for meds prescribed by an MD other than your regular one.

Sometimes they do reimburse, just at a lower rate than otherwise, but hey, money is money!

I found a posting by someone on another website when I googled something like 'biaxin wa lm art', and the poster said she found drugs cheaper at co st co.  So I went to the costco website, clicked on pharmacy, and there the prices were.

Maybe someone else here has experience with wa lm art, co st co, and other places -- I'd suggest you post a new comment titled something like 'Anyone getting antibiotics thru mail order?'  and see what responses you get.

I would guess you would have to join, but the website probably explains all of it.  Let us know how it goes -- it would be good information for all of us to have.

Hang in there.  The hardest part of the treatment, believe it or not, is getting the diagnosis.  The rest of it isn't easy, but at least now you know what's up.

OMG,
you are such a god send. Why so inexpensive? How do I order it that way?

I become a member? Do I go and order it at Costco?

Thanks so much for all your valuable help. I was so bumbed when my doctor from the HMO said she wouldn't help because she felt that using biaxin and omnicef were overkill even with lyme.

How do I go about getting this price??/

I didn't check other stores, but here are the current prices for clarithromycin (generic for Biaxin) at Co st co.  (Run that together to make the real name.)  You could also google other usual outlets like Walmart and others, which can fill by mail, I believe but don't know for sure.

500 mg tablets

quantity and price:
60   $42.30
120   $74.10
180     $104.90

You can get the generic form.  I can't remember how much it was but it wasn't cheap either.

I was on Biaxin, which is brand name for clarithromycin.  Why did your MD not check the box for generic, which is generally a lot cheaper but is technically the same drug?  It's a fairly common drug.

If you order online from a reputable/well-known website, you may be able to get a better price than at the corner pharmacy.

If you belong to WalMart or perhaps Target or similar stores, I understand their pharmacy charges are quite reasonable.  Mail order can be a pain, because they will often refill only a few days before the last refill is used up (they don't want to send you medicine you won't use).  But $ is $.

Shop around and you can probably find some deals, and if your MD prescribed brandname Biaxin, ask if s/he will rewrite for generic clarithromycin if the pharmacy won't fill with generic on your say-so.

Why is your insurance company denying coverage?  I have lousy insurance, and even they cover at least part of my prescriptions no matter what.  If you are in an HMO, is your primary care dr refusing to prescribe what the LLMD recommends?

If insurance companies were allowed to sell policies across state lines, there would be more competition -- when there is more than one grocery or shoe store in town, they compete with each other to lower prices and increase service; everybody knows that.  The proposed Obamacare will lower quality, lengthen wait times for treatment through rationing, and the costs will keep going higher, according to the Congressional Budget Office.  That helps no one, even if you assume 'the other guy' is the one whose taxes go up.

Why do Canadians come to the US for medical care?  Because costs for medical care, which is 'free' in Canada, are kept down by rationing, which limits availability.  When we become stuck in Obamacare, the wealthy will still fly somewhere else for care while the rest of us stand in line.  Congress and the White House have a medical plan that is wonderful -- and they refuse to give it up and join in Obamacare.  That tells you something, doesn't it?  That's elitist.  And that's just wrong.
