me and 7 yr old daughter dx.

I was recently diagnosed with Lyme (about three months ago) and was placed on doxy for 21 days.  I havent seen a tick since I was a kid (about 20 yrs ago), and never had the classic rash associated with the lyme.  However, I have had occasional circular spots on my skin since I was a kid and the doctor always treated them as ringworm.  When I was a teenager, I broke out in millions of the spots all over my body and after seeing multiple doctors, they finally decieded it was psoriasis.  The breakout cleared up mostly and was back to the 2-3 spots per year until last year.  I developed tonsillitis, in the summer, I was sure it was strept because it was sooo painful.  I went to the doctor, got a shot of ampicillin and oral amoxil.  My throat didnt feel any better for about 4 days with the antibioitic, which I thought was odd becuase I was sure it was strep and so was the MD.  About 3 weeks later, i broke out with another severe rash, covering my entire back, most of my legs, my face, arms, it was awful.  Psoriais again. I thought I was never gonna heal and turn into a monster! Several months later,  i started having trouble concentrating, focusing, working, and could barely remember my name. I am 28 by the way.  I went to a new doctor, blood was drawn,  and he gave me a dx of lyme.  i gave that history for this reason-  My 7 yr old daughter has had problems all year at school, concentration, focusing, remembering things, she had a significant wt gain. So, last week, i had her tested for Lyme- sure enough she was positive.

She was put on 14 days on amoxicillin 500 mg tid.  I wondered if that was enough? I also wondered if I could have contraced the lyme as a kid, and didnt start with neurological symtoms until the past year and possibly passed it to my daughter in utero?

I plan to have my other two children tested. My 2 brothers amy my mother also share many of the same symtoms that I did and are getting tested this week.  I guess my question was, is 2 weeks long enought antibiotic for my daughter, and 21 days enough for me? Is it possible that I could have contracted in as a child and it lie dormant all this time? I live in Texas near the Abilene area, and most doctors around hear are very unknowledgable about Lyme, the right test to order and so on. In fact, my brother who was tested last week, his doctor rolled his eyes when he mentioned lyme- only wrote "lyme" on the lab slip. His test did come back Igm <0.91 which inicated negative, but due to my friends in the lab, without breaching confidentiality, the lab tech simply stated she will ask for a western blot.  It is pending.

my inial lyme came back negative, but it was the western blot that confirmed.  It has been about 3 months since i completed the antibiotic. l feel much better, but am starting to have the fatigue and leg aches that i had before.

I personally don't think either of you  had enough treatment.  I am not a doctor though.  I had those horrendous rashes too.  I had them all over, they would break out every few weeks and last a few weeks.  They were itchy.  I would break out in round patches 6 inches across.  I still get rashes all the time but not as bad the ones I had the first year.

Thank  you so much for responding.  It really is nice to know that I am not alone in this.  I happen to stumble upon a MD that ran the ELISA and apparently the western blot as well.  When I went back for follow up on lab work, he told me "well, good news is, you dont have lyme" , then a few weeks later, his nurse called and told me my western blot came back positive. That taught me to make sure to ask for the western blot when they tested my daughter.  The physician that tested me didnt offer me any info on Lyme, just that I had it, here's a script for antibiotic.  That was that.  So, I definately need help finding a LLMD.  I am an hour east of Abilene, about 1 1/2 hours west of Ft. Worth 2 hours from Dallas.   I am really wanting to find someone to ensure that I get proper treatment and most importantly, my daughter is treated adequately.  So, if anyone can help me find a LLMD, I would really appreciate it. I have been to the doctor referral page, but it didnt work for some reason.

Try to find an LLMD (a slang term used by Lyme patients for a "Lyme-Literate Medical Doctor"), meaning a physician who looks beyond the 'two weeks of drugs and you MUST be well' approach.

Texas is a big place, but you may have LLMDs nearby that you don't know about.  LLMDs don't use that tag for themselves, and in fact LLMDs often don't want the publicity.

If you can't find an LLMD, someone here may be able to give suggestions depending on your location.  Abilene, and where?

You sound alot like me!  The last tick I remember was 20 years ago and it got imbedded in my scalp (12 years old) for a week.  My pediatrician had to remove it and I recall have bumps all over my head for a while.  Now, I have peripheral neuropathy, and fatigue too.  I had a positive ELISA and I want the Western Blot.  What tests did you and your family have?  I have the same question, can I have carried this for 20 yrs, only to have neurological symptoms in the last 2.5 years.  I know someone that has Lyme's and her daughter just got diagnosed too.  Well, they seem very helpful on here so you should find some good info.  I, too, am on doxy, but only for 10 days.  I don't think its enough, but I'm new at this:)  Take care and keep us updated!
