Due March 26th!!!

by mommom2, Jul 25, 2008 11:05PM
I got my BFP 7/19!!!  After a very long wait.  My husband and I have a 3 yr. old son, I had one miscarriage before him at 8 weeks, and three after him, two at three weeks and the other at eleven weeks.  We have been trying since I stopped breastfeeding our son at 15 months. I had been charting and doing all kinds of crazy stuff EVERY month, but got really tired of it and kind of gave up and started checking into adoption and then wa-la, the month we didn't "try" I got pregnant.  I'm on 2 extra mg. of folic acid everyday besides my prenatal and am on 200 mg. of progesterone suppositories (not fun).  My HCG was 3,124 on 7/22 and had my first appt. 7/23, he said everything's on schedule. I had my HCG checked again today to make sure the numbers are going up and they were 10,500 which both of us were very happy with and I have Ultrasound scheduled for 8/5 because of my history.
(I was originally on the April 09 forum, because I used my Grandma's due date method and got April 2nd, but Dr. says March 26th, so I'm switching!)

What great news!  Yes, I am on additional folic acid supplements, but no progesterone.  Good luck!

I wish you the best with this one!  We went through 2 misscarrigaes before the Dr put me ont the 25 mg. 2x day progesterone suppositories.  We had our son (now 14mo.) and then lost one more in Feb 09.   My husband and I just found out I am due 3/ 28! So, I'm doing them again.  It has been a while... I didn't miss it, but it was only for the 1st trimester.  Well worth it :)

What does the folic acid do for you?

After my third miscarriage, my Dr. did major bloodwork to see what was going on and it showed that I have a mutation in my MTHFR gene.  and it effects folic acid production.  I talked to a genetic counselor though and she said that with me only having one copy that it doesn't affect my body or a growing baby's body at all, but my Dr.'s just making sure.
the progesterone is AWFUL isn't it?  It better be working!  lol
Good Luck to you and your husband with this one! - think happy thoughts!

ha - I am also on extra folic b/c of MTHFR, i have BOTH genes but they then tested homosistine  levels and they are normal....so my prenatal has max of folic acid in daily dose. I also take a baby asprin daily (81 MG) and 200MG suppository of progesterone nightly. Boy - I sound a mess, huh? It's all working out though, and I had previously taken a prog. suppository that was terrible, it was like half the size of my pinky finger. Now I take prometrium and it is WORLDS better -- it is the shape of an egg, about the size of a pea and less comes out after putting it in. Gross, I know - but hey, if it helps you - well then....

CONGRATS.

It wouldn't hurt to be put on progesterone. Especially since they haven't found any other reason you're miscarrying. My Dr. said that progesterone will help if that's the problem, but it won't hurt anything if it's not. I'm on the suppositories twice a day and like Jem75 said, they're like half the size of your pinky and they leak all day, it's only for the first trimester though.

progesterone suppositories are vaginal suppositories.  The pharmacy mixes the progesterone with some type of wax so they can be formed and harden (they have to stay in the fridge). But the wax drips out "of there" all day, it's like chapstick. lol lol... I know it's gross!
