Eating

Hi ladies,

I wanted to check back in with everyone about their feeding schedule and what kinds of foods everyone is eating. I sometimes feel like we might get into a food rut so I want to see if anyone else's baby's diets were a bit different.

Here is Jack's schedule and food:

6:30a - 6oz bottle of formula
9:30a - Solids - 4 tblspn of oatmeal or multi-grain cereal mixed with homemade pureed pears/apples/bananas [3 cubes]. After cereal I usually give him some table food for self feeding either 1 organic blueberry waffle or 1 full banana in chunks.
11:30a - Sippy cup of 6oz of formula
2:30p - Sippy cup of 2-3oz of formula plus Solids ( I will give at a serving of 2 items: pasta, bread, yogurt, pureed avacado mixed with pureed yams/sweet potatoes or winter squash)
5:30p - Solids (Probably a jarred food or a plate of peas/carrots/corn/green beans for finger food work)
6:30p - 6oz bottle of formula

Irish you are doing such a great job with Jack! I am super impressed with the variety he gets.

Mark doesn't really have a feeding schedule, and if he does I don't really notice it because it changes so much. He still breastfeeds on demand and sometimes prefers milk over solids. He eats everything we eat so I just feed him whatever is in the fridge. I don't really pay attention, except I do make sure he get lots of veggies before anything else. Mark really loves peas and broccoli though....

8am- 6 oz. bottle
2 cubes of pureed fruit (homemade) w/ 3 tbs. oatmeal

12pm- 4-6 oz. bottle
1/4 cup diced yellow veggie (usually squash)
1/4 cup cottage cheese or yogurt

4pm- 6 oz. bottle

5:30pm- 1/4 cup diced green veggie (peas, zucchini, etc)
1/4 cup of protein (tofu, beans, or meat... yes... can you believe it!  Leighton sometimes gets meat!  haha)
              2 cubes of pureed fruit
** sometimes I will also give her some cubed cheese and bread at dinner too **

7pm- 4-6oz. bottle

Irish... YOu are doing better than we are with the sippy cup.  Leighton will take anything from her sippy EXCEPT for her formula.  I don't get it!?  Suggestions??????

6:30 am - 4-5 oz bottle
7:30/8am - solids (oatmeal, fruit and puffs or pancake. I will also give her half a banana) with sippy cup of water
9:00 am - 4-6 oz bottle (she is an a.m. cluster feeder!)
12:15 - lunch is a combo of two or three items like turkey, veggies, fruit, puffs, cheese or yogurt
2:00 - 6 oz bottle
4:00 pm - snack, like watermelon or blueberries w/ sippy cup of water
5:30 pm dinner is solids - roasted chicken, pasta, grilled zucchini, avocado w/ sippy cup of water
7:00 pm -4-6 oz bottle

She drinks a lot of water but she loves it. I started putting formula in her cup - but doesn't drink it all. DR warned many kids won't take milk from their sippy cup at first, Ovaz, so hang in there!

Wow...well it sounds like everyone is doing something similar. We all have a good mix of foods. :)

It was funny, after I sent this post Jack went on a sippy cup strike for a day. I am not sure how to get them to drink from the cup. I started out with putting water in it then tried putting the formula and have never really had an issue. Jack is very intense about his food. He doesn't seem to care about how it is served only that it is served and FAST. Very annoying!! I have a friend though that came across the formula/sippy cup problem. I am not sure how it was alleviated. I would keep trying it every day or every few days and see if she ever gets more comfortable.

For us, the yogurt I give Jack is from Horizon. It is organic and made especially for babies/toddlers. It is a blend of a fruit and a veggie. Jack loves them. :)

I cannot get Carter to drink from a sippy cup. He will not self feed (expect puff or mum mums) and after a major vomitted after eating some blended macoronni casserole (that was a tiny bit chunkier then what he had been eating) he won't eat anything with texture at tall. I need advice ladies

So sorry you are having issues with the textured foods. That can be rough to deal with on a daily basis. I remember Jack turned away a few things in the begining and it really made mealtime frustrating. However, for the most part he just inhales whatever is in front of him so I haven't had to deal with the texture issue. I did do a little on-line looking and found this site (take out the spaces): www. keepkidshealthy. com/ experts/ fb/ textured_baby_food. html

I thought it gave some pretty good info on how to start from scratch with the textures.

I gues they all develop in their own way...as slow as it may be. Good luck. I hope the gagging and protesting ends soon.

Blake eats:

8 am- 4 tbsp whole wheat cereal with two cubes pears with cinnamon and mixed with prune juice then 4oz bottle (which she rarely finishes!)

12 pm- 2 chicken nuggest with ketchup or an egg yolk with ketchup, mandarin oranges (she LOVES these), 2-4 cubes of some kind of vegetable.

2pm- 8 oz bottle

5pm- same amount as lunch. I will change the protein or veggie on her though to something different.

7pm- 8 oz bottle

Any time inbetween these times she will drink apple juice (from the cardboard box with a straw!) and eat gerber snacks or whatever else I have around me. She eats a lot of what I eat if I am snacking on or eating too.

Oh I'm sorry I ment to say as slow as it may seem...not as it may be. I think all our little kiddies seem to be doing just great. :)

Jules...

We give Leighton Yoplait yogurt.  Teh cultures are really good for their digestive system.  But, any type of yogurt is fine.  We also give her cottage cheese, which is also really good for them.  As far as brands on this one, we give her Trader Joe's Organic Small Curd.
