Hayden is Jaundice and we can not take her home yet

hi everyone -
congrats on the newbies and those getting ready. i have missed everyone all week! we're enjoying getting to know our little peanut - she took to feeding VERY easily -  and really has quite a set of pipes on her - she can SCREAM. Especially when the nurses bath her - or if she becomes unswaddled. She is a cuddler.

We were supposed to check out tonight but pediatrician wants to keep Hayden another day. She is Jaundice - which i could not tell at all by looking at her - and all her vitals have been great. they did some test though and found her level was a little high. Of course I started tearing up and got very scared. But everyone says this is more common and hopefully she will be good to go by tomorrow for us to bring home. I am not sure I can stand being separated from her.

Please keep us in your thoughts! I will post some more pics on may page.

Oh honey, I am sorry, and you have every right to cry, we went through this last night. We went to our first Ped appt. yesterday, and after testing her blood levels, they called and told us to get to the hospital immediately, her levels were pretty high, at 21. So we got there and they admitted us, told me that Madison couldn't eat all night, and then put an IV in her arm. Needless to say I was pretty darn upset, I cried for a while before I finally was convinced that she would be okay. So this morning her levels were much better, to 14, and they sent us home with a little bed to put her in with the lights on it. Hopefully it will jsut be tonight that we need it, we have to go get her tested again tommorrow.

Personally I wish they would have tested her before we were discharge on Sunday, because having  to go back to the hospital and ahving to stay there after being home was horrible!!

But from what I have been told it is really common, especially here in Colorado. So be strong, and your little Hayden will be okay!!! I am thinking of you both, take care :)

My baby is a little jaundiced as well. She was a 9 at the hospital and then 3 days later she was a 15 then a 16.9. We are watching it and if it goes higher she will need a biliblanket. It really is common...at least they caught it and are fixing it! Good luck!!

Alex was jaundiced as well but his pediatrician said his level was on the low end of being high so they let him come home with me.  She just told me to feed him as much as he wanted when he wanted because the biliruben would come out in his pee and poop.  And it did. he's fine now.  She just told me to give it a couple of weeks.  I'm sorry they made you stay that *****.
