breastfeeding help!!

At the hospital My lil Man lost 10% of his body weight before we left. He wasn't really getting the whole breastfeeding thing. So when we got out of the hospital we stopped by CVS and got an Evenflo breast pump. I decided I would just pump instead of breastfeeding. This way I knew how much milk he was getting and could get his weight up. At first it was going really well! My milk all came in and I was pumping 4-5 oz each time I pumped. I mean my breasts were very full. It lasted about 5 days and now the last 2 days I have barely gotten 2-3 oz. and sometimes even less than that.My breast are very soft and "Squishy." The first couple days I didn't have to pump at night because I was getting so much we just kept it in the fridge and used it over night. Now since I am having a lower milk supply I don't have enough to go all night or have any left over after he eats. I am afraid I am running out of milk. Has this ever happened to anyone else before? Is there anything I should do to get more milk in?

A woman's milk supply is based on the demand of the baby. Normally you little one would be nursing at night so your body would make enough to cover that time. Because you aren't pumping at night your body does not 'think' your baby needs more than it is making. In order to increase your supply try pumping more often and leave the pump on for a minute or two after your breast is emptied. This will tell your body that it needs to produce more milk. Good advice from above :)  Also, I thought that a newborn should be getting roughly 2-3 oz. of milk/formula per feeding for the first month.  So, if you are pumping 2-3 oz. that is good!  If you are pumping more... store it up for later use... or at least that is what I am doing :)
