Good morning all - I'm posting from my home computer so I had to change my log in slightly as I couldn't remember the password for MicheleB.
Just wanted to update everyone. I delivered a week early, on Thursday September 9th. My water broke at 3:30 am (just a trickle) so I put a towel under me and went back to bed. Started having back pains around 7:00 a.m. and called my midwife at 7:30am. I had an appointment scheduled for that day at 12:45, so we agreed to meet at the hospital instead. Had DH drop me off at work (I know, stupid me, but I had a couple things I wanted to get finished) and we put the hospital bag and car seat in the truck. The back pains started to get worse just before 10:00 and after recording the times realized they were 4 minutes apart and 35 - 50 seconds long. Called the midwife to check in and we bumped the appt. to 11:00am. DH picked me up and off we went. The midwife figured she do an internal and then we'd go home for a bit, but when she checked me just after 11, I was already 4-5 cms dialated, so she had me admitted. By 2pm I was 7-8 cms dialated and started pushing around 3:30pm, and Liam arrived at 4:44pm. It took a littleLittle noses decongestant Little tummys work to get him out, and there were a couple times I didn't think I could do it, but I held on (no drugs at all). I had to have the Dr. deliver my placentaAnatomy of a normal placenta Placenta Placenta abruptio Placenta previa Ultrasound, normal placenta - braxton hicks Ultrasound, normal relaxed placenta as it didn't want to come on it's own. As well, we weren't able to collect the cord blood as the cord broke as they were putting him in my arms. He was 7lbs 8oz and 20 inches long.
Sorry I don't know anything about murmursHeart murmurs and other sounds....I would just trust my pedi. Ours sent Talon to an eye doctor just to be cautious. Sounds like yours may be doing the same thing. I'm sure your little guy will turn out just great. But please keep us posted!!!
My son had a slight heart murmer at birth. it closed up on its own and was gone by the time he was a year old. no problem. he had to see a pediatric cardiologist soon after birth also- so you probably don't have anything to worry about.
Enjoy your precious bundle of joy and congrats again!!! Love the name too!
Sounds like a dream labor. We often have newborns with slight heart murmurs. They are almost always insignificant as long as the baby is doing well. Sounds like you are doing the right thing, getting it checked by the cardiologist.
OMG Congrats on your little guy. I hope the heart murmur is nothing. My nephew had that (he was a little older though) but all was fine. How cool our babies were due about the same time and arrived at the same time. Feel free to come back with any ???? you have on him. I know I have been here more times than I can count and I have already been through this once. I hope he is a great baby for you and you get lots of rest. Well congrats again my little man calls for me so I better go. Take care of him and yourself. Yay!!!!!!!!
My 2 year old had a heart murmur that was detected the day after my due date. They did an u/s, discovered a VSD and induced me that evening. He delivered the next day and we spent the next 6 months seeing a ped cardiologist. We were told at 6 months the hole was closing, but we had a bit of a scare at his 2 year check up when the murmur was detected again. Turned out to be a false alarm, the hole had indeed closed and he is now left with an "innocent murmur"
As everyone posted before, most are benign and will never cause a problem : )
oh yah...i've only heard of the cord breaking one other time and unfortunately it happened before the baby was born...but yes the length of the cord is not standard.....
how scary i'm glad that the baby was already on her chest when it broke instead of any earlier.

The peadiatrician thinks it is either the type where the chambers just haven't closed yet or where one valve is smaller than the other, but doesn't consider it serious. Thanks Stacie for the reassurance.
Kassimom - on the cord issue, I didn't realize that could happen either, apparently the cord was quite short (guess there was no worry of it wrapping around his neck) and the midwives commented it was quite 'friable'. Because of that they were reluctant to pull too much on it to deliver the placenta so I had to have the OB on duty come and deliver it. That was quite fustrating, I had finally delivered the little guy, and then rather than feeling like everything was done, had to wait even longer. Although it's a good thing the Dr. delivered it, as if it didn't come out intact, I would have had to do a D&C.
Thanks again to everyone. I'll pop on from time to time with all my questions and to see how everyone else is doing.
Congratulations! I am very happy for you that all went well. I agree that the heart murmer is likely nothing to worry about but good to be checked, gives a piece of mind to you. Helen
He's doing great, only issue is that he has a slight heart murmur. The peadiatrician doesn't seem too concerned, but has referred us to an infant cardiologist who we see on Friday.
Has anyone had any experience with heart murmurs?
Congratulations to Blondie on her new bundle of joy!
