Wow !   I can't believe you got a thread open !  Well I heard from my dr today and they said my HCG levels are at 90,553 that was taken on 9/10 at 6W6d.  So far everything looks good.  Had the u/s on Monday and the heartbeat was at 164.  They said it looks really good ... #'s are strong. I'm still nervous though.

My boobs are so uncomfortable. They are huge, sore, and look like they are big balloons that could pop at any moment. Does anyone have any advice for me on what would be a good bra for me right now. I'm 7 weeks pregnant. Will they get a lot bigger before the end of my pregnancy? I started out a C cup, and I'm not sure if they still are. My bras are starting to get uncomfortable. I've been wearing Victoria's Secret "Body by Victoria" bras, but I'm afraid to buy new ones because they are expensive if I outgrow them too soon. Are there any other less expensive, but nice and supportive bras anyone would suggest?? Thanks for your help, and sorry for all the complaining, I really do love being pregnant!!! It's an awesome feeling!

I got my period today, My last period was the 15th last month, now I am feeling really angry that I ever found out about being pregnant, if I hadn't have known I would never have suspected that I was pregnant, but it does make me wonder.. How many times have I been pregnant and not known before? This scares the living day out of me! Is this normal?

I was a 34D when I got pregnanat...I went up to a 36D...then they got too tight too...haven't bought new ones since the first couple of months.  I am now 17 weeks and they seem to have plateaued for a bit.  I bought nursing bras without an underwire.  They are VERY VERY comfortable and hold everything in.

Good luck...

Walmart carries some nice nursing bras that the cup size actaully adjusts on. I wore them with DD and plan on buying a few more. They are not very costly either. Good luck finding a comfy bra. I am still at that super sore stage lol.

i was also a 34D when i got pg with my son i only went up to a 38D with milk in...this time i am 23weeks and already in my 38D nursing bra so unfortunately i am going to have to buy a couple new nursing bras.

as far as mid pg bras i would go as cheap as you can simply because you aren't going to stay in them and it can get spendy trying to buy V.S. bras while pg...

when not pg I also shop at Victoria Secret....for one thing(i don't know if andi has this prob. but i do)  for some reason most regular stores don't think you should only be 34 around with a D cup...they all want to try and sell you a 36C and tell you it's the same thing....SORRY, no way doesn't quite cut it. you walk into V.S. and tell them 34D and they pop open a drawer full of that size in all kinds of colors and they aren't those stupid up to your neck granny bras.
plus victoria secret might be a little more but they are soooooo comfy and last for soooo long.
ok i'm done with my sales pitch...LOL

Mrsjwilson,

I'm not sure I'm familiar with your situation, but if you tested and got a + before you were late or before AF was due and then went on to have AF, then yes that can be normal and is not necessarily a cause for concern.

I do not recall the actual percentage that are said to have this happen, but I do believe it is higher than you'd expect. Maybe do a search on chemical pregnancy and see if you can find some figures there? To give you peace of mind you may want to call your doctor and ask their opinion on the matter. It may help to hear stastics quoted from your own doctor rather than an internet search engine, KWIM? I think this is why people are told to wait to test until after they've missed their period. Testing prior and seeing the positive result then having AF start is quite devestating,I've been through that before several times so I quit testing early all together. I'm really sorry that you had to go through this =(

Everyone,

Just wondering how many ppl had sore BBs before a positive test or even before their missed period? I usually don't have sore BBs before my period and I do this month. I'm the one that had all the CM questions the last few weeks and I'm hoping...but trying not to get my hopes up too high. I'm crossing my fingers!

Hello ladies, I have a Provera question.
I had a miscarriage in April and was not getting a my AF. My doctor put me on Provera 10mg for 5 days. I was wondering in your experiences how long it take for AF to come. We still want to try to conceive and I was wondering how long it might take before that would be possible. DH is in the Army and has been on alert for awhile so we probably wont have a lot of time. Any input would be appreciated.

To: need advice re: HPT timing
I'm in a bit of a conundrum here!  August 14 was my first AF since my M/C.  For a regular, 28 day cycle, I would expect my next AF to arrive on Sept. 11.  I had unprotected sex on Sept. 11, as I figured it was safe to (AF was due on that day).  AF hasn't arrived yet.  (I know AF can be wonky after a miscarriage, though, and this would only be my second one since my second miscarriage.)  We were trying to prevent pregnancy for every single time other than Sept. 11, so unless we had a condom break or something, I should be considered safe.  Anyhoo, still no AF on day 31, so I took an HPT and it was BFN.  I am getting no clues re: pregnancy or AF - my body is simply "silent" on all counts.  I have two questions about this: 1) When would an HPT be considered "valid", since I don't know when I ovulated?  When should I take another one?  And 2) I am going to the dentist tomorrow (CD33) for X-rays and would rather not if I'm pg.  However, I'm considered the chance that I'm pg to be very small.  What should I do about the dentist?  Thanks for your help!  The waiting is driving me nuts...

Just to be safe, ask for the lead apron.

Take another test if you don't get your period in a week.  And you are absolutely right about crazy periods for a while after m/c.

i went for a check up today the midwife tried to listen to the babys heartbeat, but the baby kept moving and kicking her hand away!  we did get a quick listen in the end, but not long enough to hear how many bpms.  i asked the midwife if there is any truth in the number of bpms relating to the sex of a baby, she said there is no truth in it. so i guess we'll have to wait until baby pops out to see what we have!
i thought i was 19w 4d today but the midwife out me at 19 exactly!  ive given up trying to guess how far along i am, my due date of feb 10th still stands though, so i guess we'll see if baby wants to make an appearance then!
hope everyone else is well.
lovinmum, i found the link to the website on blighted ovum.

19 weeks and 19w-4d is essentially the same thing.  Don't get too carried away by dates.  Consider them a "guestimate" and take with a grain of salt.

Think of your due date as actually a 2 week period of time, either way.  Nature did not design pregnancy to be completed on a schedule--the medical community arbitrarily set the mindet of "dates".

by sm8, Sep 15, 2004 12:00AM
i know Nature did not design pregnancy to be completed on a schedule but saying that made this pop into my head and wanted to share what i thought to be really funny.  All three of my children were born on the sunday of my 39th week and i woke up at 7:00 a.m. in labor with all of them.  Guess i shouldnt make any plans on subsequent pregnancies for that day! LOL....

by sm8, Sep 15, 2004 12:00AM
If you have a craft store (or cake store) near you you could make chocolate lolipops or Cigars.  There are usually alot of molds about pregnancy and baby's.  You could also buy hershey bars and print out new wrappers instead of writing hershey write heresheis or hereheis and put you due date (but now that i think of it your newly pregnant so you wouldn't know boy or girl) but still a thought.

I just found out yesterday that what they thought was a tubal pregnacy was a cyst and I am 5weeks 3days pregnant with a very healthy baby.  I jsut wanted to thank everyone for thier kind words and prayers.

They could not see the baby on the u/s they said it was to early, but they saw the sac and the yolk sac so everything is moving along.

thanks, as long as i don't go too early or too far over my pregnancy due date, i'm trying not to keep dates in my head, but it is nice to see in my books how big the baby might be now, we have a fifth scan this coming monday and i have no doubt the date may well change again.

Wow I am full of quaetions today. This is for all those preg with #2: How long did it take before you started showing?

With DD I could tell the difference the week after my bfp, but I only weighed 100 lbs. This time I am around 125 but I heard you show earlier with the second.

CHRISTAANN.......I am so glad all is well......the cyst is probably no big deal unless they told you otherwise......I asked about you yesterday but don't know if you seen the post.....hell, I probably can't find it now. I was just wondering if you had made it to the doctor.
Congrats on your pregnancy. I know you were worried.

Hopeful........I didn't see where anyone answered your question........I had sore BB before I was due to start AF and before I got a BFP.....I had some cramping also.......I went in for my yearly 3 days before AF was due and after hearing some of my symptoms she did a pregnancy test......it was positive and I was worried about a chemical pregnancy as you mentioned.
I got MOST of my pregnancy symptoms BEFORE AF was due.
Good Luck to you.

To: re: ultra sounds
I am just wondering why so many have so many ultra sounds?  I had one at 9 weeks, due to some bleeding, then the 18 week anatomical scan, and I am now 32.5 weeks and haven't had another yet.  Is is different in the US than here in Canada?  I am just curious and a little jealous - I wanted to have another just in case they could tell me the sex this time - they couldn't see at the 18 week ultra sound.  Are all the extra scans due to high risk or just regularly scheduled?

by Angel4JohnnyB, Sep 15, 2004 12:00AM
To: karen
Hi, I don't think the US is much different than Canada.......I think most of them have the extra ones because they are high risk or have had multiple miscarriages.

I would have only had the two but my son went breech in the last few weeks and my midwife did another just to confirm what she already knew. I found out the sex of ds at my second u/s...sorry can't remember exactally what week I was in....probably 17-20 somewhere......but just so you know, if you have another one now.......at 32.5 weeks baby may be too big to be able to see. To many body parts in the way, ect......at my u/s at 36 weeks we weren't able to see........I asked her to double check to make sure he was still a boy and she said sorry, can't tell.
Good luck........you don't have much longer to go!!!!

I personally don't believe in so much ultrasound exposure, unless it is necessary beyond the shadow of a doubt.

Ultrasound is vastly overutilized.  There is no proof that it is harmful, but neither is there proof that multiple ultrasounds are completely benign.  I expect to catch some flack for this opinion, so fire away!

No, I agree with you. I've never looked into it or anything but I see no reason for u/s after u/s.
I know almost every pregnant woman loves to look at that baby on the screen (me included) I loved having my 3rd one done in the last few weeks of my pregnancy just so I could take a peek at my little guy but.........I could have done without.
I guess I just assumed that since they do it, it is safe.......could be.......but we may find out latter that it isn't.
I don't think you'll get slammed too much.......lol

I'm glad to hear that your Dr appointment went well and that baby is growing perfectly, my appointment went the same way when i went baby was measuring at 19 weeks. How have you been feeling?

by Kassimom, Sep 15, 2004 12:00AM
To: mrsjwilson § ultrasounds
mrsjwilson-Actually 1 in 6 pregnancies end in miscarriage. Shocking number? Not really beacuse most of the time you have no idea you are pregnant. You have a normal period like always and along with the lining you shed, you lose the fertilized egg for any of a number of reasons ranging from it didn't implant prpoerly to major chromosomal defects.

That is why my own OB is so irritated with the HPT market creating the "early" pregnancy test. He feels it upsets women unnecessarily.

As for the ultrasounds, my DH would agree with you wholeheartedly Christie! My MIL wanted us to get that 3D u/s done at a place called "Fetal Foto" or something like that. They do the video, the music the whole 9 yards. My DH did some research on teh 3D u/s and found out that the FDA is trying to shut those places down because the 3D u/s is actually considered unsafe to do outside of a medical facility. Apparently, the 3D u/s heats up the baby or something and the long term affects of this are not known yet. I don't know the details, he said "DANGER" I said "OKAY!!" LOL But he did collaborate thi with my OB. My own OB is ordering us a 30 wk u/s which he says is to make sure the placenta is in the right place and to make sure baby is head down and he said they have the capability to do 3D and he will have them "flip it on" for just a second. Despite what my DH read, I really do want to see the baby's face on the 3D if we are able for that second!! LOL

by chaisemom, Sep 15, 2004 12:00AM
Just curious....Where do they get those numbers, one in 6 preg. end in m/c b/c you don't know you're preg? Well, if you don't know you're preg. how do they know you're preg?

by msjwilson, Sep 15, 2004 12:00AM
I've read up on chemical pregnancys and from what I can tell it seems to me that apparently alot of people who get chemical pregnancy's can't carry to term! I guess I am worried because with 1 miscarraige and now a "chemical pregnancy" this could mean trouble, and in New Zealand it's quite hard to get the medical proffesion to do anything!!
As for finding out, I never did a pregnancy test infact I never even suspected, I was in hospital because my gall bladder was flaring up again and the doctors found out through routine blood testing and decided to tell me that I was pregnant, though I wish they hadn't as it was only 97 HCG..
If they hadn't have told me I would have gone home and I wouldn't have even suspected I was pregnant! I feel so upset and needlessly disrupted, I swear they shouldn't tell you when your HCG level is so low, I was so dead excited!!
Me and hubby have decided to try again straight away though, after finding out we were pregnant we were both so excited and happy we knew it's what we wanted!! He's not stopped talking about what he's going to do when he's a Daddy, how he's going to buy them an X-BOX and take them to the zoo and buy them loads of games, it's so cute watching him getting excited!!
It's strange, my husband has been my best friend since I was 13 when I met him through school friends, I never ever suspected he would end up my husband and we would end up having babies together! :)

HCG can be detected in your blood as early as 5 days after conception. However, levels must be much higher for an HPT to detect the pregnancy, hence why you usually can't take one until you actually miss a period. So I can only assume that there were numerous studies conducted among women who were TTC and I am sure they tested for pregnancy from the moment of ovulation to see how soon they could get a positive and the end results were proving that often you are pregnant, don't know it, and end up miscarrying anyway.

A direct quote from "A Child in Born" by Lennart Wilson:

"Nearly one pregnancy in five comes to an end at this stage, because either the egg or the sprem lacked the optimum genetic prerequisites."

A quote from "What to Expect When You're Expecting":

"Early miscarriage is very common (many doctors believe that virtually every woman will have at least one sometime during her reproductive years), occuring in as many as 40 to 65 percent of conceptions. More than half of these occur so early that pregnancy is not even suspected yet (which is why the miscarriage rate among diagnosed pregnancies is much lower); so these miscarriages often go unnoticed, passing for a normal or sometimes heavier period."
