I didn't have to fast or anything. I ate before I went. When I got there I drank this sugary drink - which I thought was good and waited an hour and they took my blood. You don't have to fast for the 1 hr test or at least I didn't
I didnt have to fast with my last DD, which was over 2 years ago. I just had to drink a really sugary orange drink....kinda tasted like really sweet orange pop. Then I had to sit and wait forever.
I was told to eat normally for the 1 hour screening, though I know friends who thought having increased sugar right before that test made them fail it. I did my usual (light OJ, cereal, milk) and failed the screening but told what I ate didn't make me fail it. But when doing the 3 hour test a few days later, I was told to follow a slightly different meal plan -- making sure to eat about 4 servings per day for 3 days of fruit, dairy, and carbs so maybe just eating more carbs than usual though I tend to eat a lot of those anyway. I passed the 3 hour test fine.
i had the same question, so i recently looked it up. apparently what we are getting (the 1 hr) is called a glucose screening. if you fail, then you take the 3 hr glucose tolerance test. for the glucose screening, you do not have to fast.
I fasted ofr the one hour test bc I couldnt remember and I got really sick.. The nurse told me I didnt have to fast, but that I wouldnt screw the test up either. My advice would be to eat.
I just had my one hour glucose screening and I had the same question as you so I called my doctor. They told me that if you have the one hour test you dont have to fast, but if you have the three hour test then you would have to fast. I would suggest just eating sumthing light before you went thats what I did.
I had my test down at 28 weeks (i am 35 wks and 4 days now) and I had to fast starting at midnight the night before the test and my test was at 8:45 am. I had my blood taken and then drank a sugary drink that everyone told me would be grainy and gross but it wasn't bad at all.. tasted like kool-aid, and then after an hour they took my blood again.. very simple. I was so hungry and thirsty afterwards though!
