10 Month old with maybe a tummy bug ???? not sure

Hi there

you ladies are so helpful just wondering if you have any pointer, my son jhett is 10 months old, and never gets nappy rash until now, his poop in the morning is normal for the 1st 2 that he does and by the end of the day they are loose and seem to be burning his butt, poor little man it's got to the point where i have to put him in the shower to rinse his butt cause he will not let anyone even touch it, let alone take the nappy off. i'm thinking maybe a tummy bug cause it's happening every 2nd day, but then i saw another tooth cutting through and i'm thinking that it could be teething??? any insight would be appreciated.

Thanks

i think that if it were a tummy bug it would be consistent. i can think of 2 possibilities- teething or a reaction to something he's eating.

It very well could be from teething since it isn't happening constantly.

On the rash, try putting Lotrimin AF on his bottom.  Blow on it so the skin can absorb it and then put some Desitin and then plain powder (or Corn Starch) on that.  You want to stay away from the scented powders.  The fragrance could irritate even more.  The Lotrimin is anti-fungal and helps a lot.  The Desitin will help seal his skin and the powder will help keep the diaper from sticking to his bottom.  And give him a bath daily until the rash is gone.  Try this because I have had this exact thing happen with my 14 month old many times.  I tried everything and this help.  Hers was red, and cracked, and even bleeding.  I felt so bad for her.

i agree with the others that is probably teething causing looser stools. but since you said it only tends to happen later in the day, im wondering if maybe there is something you are giving him in the afternoon that doesn't agree with him. have you recently introduced a new food/drink? i doubt its a stomach bug if, like tiredbuthappy said, its not consistent and they are no other symptoms, i.e. - fever, vomiting, etc.

as far as the rash, let him go as long as possible without a diaper and allow air to get to it. after you wash him off, make sure his entire diaper area is completely dry before applying desitin and putting a diaper on. dont use baby wipes. use a warm wet washcloth and pat the area, dont wipe. it is probably even better to rinse him in the shower rather than with a wachcloth, but either way, pat the area dry. i reccomend desitin over any other kind of cream for diaper rashes. the cream kind. it always seemed to work best for us. good luck.

girliegrl1723 is right.  I forgot that part.  DON'T use babywipes when they have a rash.  It will burn.  Even when mine don't have rashes, I only use the non-scented babywipes for sensitive skin.  And I do try to let mine air dry too.  But it can be hard when they are really young because they urinate so often.  I even read (on a home remedy site) about using a blow dryer to help dry their little bottoms when changing them or bathing them.  Of course your would hold it far away from their skin or put it on a cool setting, so as not to burn them.  And I have done that one too.
