10 days late and negativer test at 8

Hi I am 39 ( just ) :) I have 2 wonderful children one almost 20 the other almost 16! I have been divorced and have been with my new partner for 7 years married for 2.5 , trying to concieve (conceive) for all 7! he has a daughter also!
So heres the crux... I am 10 days late did a test on day 8 negative, it was in the afternoon I do pee quite often but these things are rarely wrong! We had accepted the fact it was never going to happen for us!
But now I find myself hoping against hope before I hit the big 40! I am usually regular a few days late here and there at most ! Not stressed just had the most wonderful holiday on which I got my period so i am SURE if my dates....
So I guess my question is.... am I just fooling myself hoping against all hope?

I would wait a few days and make sure to take it in the morning with your first pee... its tough its so hard when you want to believe it could be happening but scary to think maybe your body is just teasing you... i hope you are! and you could be! if your like me i would buy a few tests and take one everyday till either i get a positive or the dreaded period... best of luck!!
PS that happens all the time that when the couples give up trying it seems to happen :)
