10 week ultrasound

by Myah's Mom, Dec 06, 2004 12:00AM
Hi everyone! Seems like I haven't been on in ages. I'm 2 months pregnant now. Thanks to all of you for your kindness and support as I recovered from my miscarriage back this summer.
My question is this: I have an ultrasound next week (I'll be just barely 10 weeks), and I have no idea what to expect. I'm actually kind of nervous about, because my experience with all the early us I had while I was miscarrying were very traumatic (empty sac, no growth, etc), and I'm so nervous as  result. With my firt baby, I didn't have an us until nearly 20 weeks, which is a different ball game entirely.
What should I expect or not expect to see? I keep having horrible thoughts that they aren't going to see what they need to.....
Any thoughts?
Thanks ladies

At your 10 week u/s you will be able to see the little heart beating! There's not a lot because he/shee is so tiny but you will see the heart on the moniter beating! Good Luck how exciting! I know how you feel I had three miscarriages and with one of them I had an empty sac as well. We did finally find what was wrong with me so I'm very happy to say I have a healthy baby girl that will be 2 next month and a little boy due next month!

My daughter was one month away from turning two when my son was born.  My son is now six months.  I have my hands full with both of them, but they are so cute when they interact with one another.
I am glad they are so close in age.  Good luck to you.

I had my last one at 9wks 5 days and I could see the h/b, the head and little stumps that will be arms and legs. We could hear the h/b too. You will be amazed at what you see. The baby was moving and everything. Please let us know how it goes.

Thanks everyone. I'm sure you already know what my fear is-that I WON't see the heartbeat....
I'll keep you posted!

Yes, I have been in that scenario. I understand, but you need to think positive!

I had an U/S done at 9 weeks, and was able to see the heartbeating, the arm and leg stumps, and a view of the baby moving around. I was at that time able to hear the HB since the U/S machines are so sensitive, and the heartbeat was going form 164-174bpm. It was music to my ears when i heard it, and almost started crying when that happened. The heartbeat now goes from 140-150bpm, and that's been the steady beat for the last couple of months now. Good luck at your U/S, let us know how it goes.

Niki,

I was curious.  What ended up  being wrong with you that got corrected?  I had a blighted ovum almost 2 yrs. ago and haven't been able to conceive yet.

I hope that the 10 wk ultrasound goes well.  YOu might want to look on the web at early ultrasound pictures.  That way you will know what to look for.  Keep us posted.

Thanks everyone. That's a great idea Lovinmom about looking up some pics-I'm going to do that. Thanks!

I got 2 u/s with Jacob. The first one was at 7 weeks and he was just a peanut. The second one was at 11 weeks because they couldn't find his heartbeat that day, though he was still alive at that time. I am so glad he was stubborn that day, because it is my only u/s of him where he looks like a baby. It was perfect. I could see his face, nose, mouth, his arms and his legs. It was amazing at how fast he developed in 4 weeks.

After my first miscarriage my doctor ran a few different test and they came back normal. So with my second pregnancy we monitored my HCG levels and noticed they weren't doubling and again I miscarried. So we ran a few more test and still again everything came back normal. So with the third pregnancy we watche the HCG levels again right away and they weren't very high to begin with and then they weren't doubling. So with my fourth pregnancy my doctor wanted to give me injections of the HCG hormone because he thought my body wasn't producing enough to support a viable pregnancy. So from the day I found out I was pregnanct about 4 weeks we started the injections twice a week 200mg up until my 11 week of pregnancy. It worked! At 11 weeks your placenta takes over producing the hormones to support your pregnancy. I delivered a healthy baby girl. So when I got pregnant again we started the injections right away again and I am no 33 weeks pregnant with my son.....I just wasnt' producing enough of the HCG hormones to support my pregnancies so once I had the extra injections everything seems to work out. I have another friend who they tried the same thing with after 5 miscarriages and she has two baby boys now!

Thanks Niki for the info.  I have been out of town and am just catching up on posts.  I will have to keep that in mind.  Congratulations on your pregnancy.

Dear 10 wk,

I hope it goes well for you.  I'm sorry you are having to got through this scare.  You might want to check out this web-site to get some insite.  Do you have a tilted uterus?  That can skew u/s results.  How were your levels?
