10 weeks, no heart beat with doppler? Open Forum

I went to the dr. yesterday for my 2nd exam.  I had a ultra sound 2 weeks ago and according to it yesterday I was 9w5d and according to my lmp I would be 10w0d.  Anyway, when the dr. tried to hear the hearbeat with the doppler she did not get anything.  She said not to worry that was normal, you should hear it between 10 and 12 weeks and I was not quite 10 yet.  She told me just to come back in 4 weeks, but I told her how scared I was about this and she told me to come back next wed. and they would try again.  I will be 11 weeks then.  Has this happend to anyone?  Will they be able to hear it wed?

It just depends. That is very normal not to hear the heartbeat that early! I didn't hear mine with the doppler until I was about 12 weeks! Just relax! Ask if they can do a vaginal one.

I agree I'd ask for an ultrsound.  W/ my first two daughters I heard hbeat very early, then with my third nothing at 9wks. At first I freaked, then My doctor did an ultrasound said it was becasue of the babies position. I still wasnt able to hear it w/ the dopler until almost 14wks.  I would worry, but ask for an ultrasound, the last thing you need whne your pregnant is to stress.

We didn't hear the heartbeat by doppler until I was 12 weeks.  I've heard of other women who didn't hear a heartbeat until 15+ weeks.  Do not be discouraged, you'll be hearing that little heart soon. :)

My doctor tried to hear the heartbeat when I was just under 10 weeks due to the size of my uterus when he felt it but the heartbeat was not picked up - i did not panic because I had already had an ultrasound that previous week and I got to see the heartbeat.  When I went back just one week later as soon as they put the doppler on my belly it started.  Most amazing sound in the world.  Dont panic, sounds like it was just too soon.

Ask for an ultrasound now - you will get to see the heartbeat.

Up until my 16 week exam they told me that it may be too early for the doppler.. Just remember... at 10 weeks gestation your little bean is only about 1 inch long!!!!!! that leaves a lot of room for error.. Plus your uterus is still behind your pubic bone.

Good luck and relax you will be just fine.. :)

you will hear thumper very soon..

The exact same thing happened to me.  I was not quite 10 weeks and my doctor couldn't find baby's heartbeat with a doppler.  I was so freaked out she let me come back two weeks later to try again.  Even then, she had to look for like 5 minutes b/c baby was up really high.  I'm now 23 weeks pregnant with a healthy baby girl.

Went I went right before 12 weeks for my doppler...you could not hear the heart beat.  My dr said it was completly normal...its a 50/50 chance of hearing the heartbeat with a doppler before 12 weeks.  He gave me the option of coming back in 2 weeks or an u/s right then and there.  I opted for the u/s and everything was normal.

My doc would only even TRY with the doppler at 10 weeks if I promised not to take it as a sign of no hearthbeat if we couldn't find it. I had just seen it less than 2 wks before on the u/s so wasn't too nervous. We couldn't hear it!!! Went back one week later, kaboom kaboom kaboom!!! Now it's easy to find.
If you NEVEr have heard it yet (ie early u/s), you could ask though. I really think 10wks is early though too.  GOOD LUCK, sure it's just a fluke... those dopplers are all different too, you never know if you have a good one. Or your baby could be a tricky hider.
