12 Weeks and No heartbeat

12 Weeks and No heartbeat

Hello everyone, I was looking on the internet for some peace of mind and didnt get it so I am hoping maybe I can find it here with you. I just came home from the doctor and I am 12 weeks almost to the day. The doctor tried to hear the heartbeat with a fetal monitor and he couldnt hear one. This is my 4th child and I was able to hear their heartbeats before 12 weeks. Is it common to not hear it at 12 weeks? Thanks!

I would think they would hear it. They heard mine at 11 weeks. Did they not offer to do an u/s.  At my office if heartbeat not detected by doppler after 11 weeks they automatically do an u/s.

He did a vaginal ultrasound last month and the heartbeat was fine, just thought they should be able to hear it by now.

You should be able to hear it but I wouldnt worry yet b/c maybe the way the baby was positioned, it was too difficult.  Did the dr. seem concerned?  Im just wondering why he didnt do another US.  My dr. is so very cautious and does US everytime I go, problem or not.  if you are still uneasy, I would go back for a US.

everything will be okay, i didnt hear my baby heartbeat at the 3mos check up however the dr. did hear the placenta, is that your case.  im currently 15weeks and i have heard the heartbeat via my own doppler and the doppler at the office i work out, i work next to an ob/gyn dr. so i have the nurses check for me. but hopefully everyhting is okay keep us posted and did thr dr. seem worried?

Don't worry. My doctor had a hard time until I was about 14 weeks to hear the baby with the doppler.  She sent me for an ultrasound to confirm the pregnancy was ok--but i'm having complications (bleeding/cramping). So I wouldn't worry! She said sometimes the baby 'hides' under the placenta (the ultrasound technician said the same thing).

No, he didnt seem concerned I guess cause he scheduled my next appointment in a month. Thanks a bunch for the helpful thoughts!

I have had scans and appointments since then and everything is fine, dont worry hunny.

I wouldn't worry too much.  It's good that it has already been detected by u/s.  There are a lot of things that can interfere with hearing the HB this early.  12 weeks is usually the time it can be heard, but this is a general rule.  Everyone is different.  I'm sure you will be able to hear it on your next visit.

hi. at my 12 week visit, the dr. couldn't get the heartbeat either. (although i don't think he tried hard enough). it was like the last appt. of the day and the ultrasound tech. had gone so i had to wait another 4 days to come back for an us. it was agony, but once i finally had the us, everything was just fine! so don't worry, i'm sure you'll be ok. the fetal heart rate monitor is often a cause for concern when it shouldn't be.

I went last week for my 13wk appt.  We couldn't hear the heartbeat with the doppler either.  He did u/s and there was a healthy and active baby jumping around all over the place.  I wouldn't worry too much.  If it would set your mind at ease then maybe your dr. will schedule a u/s jsut to be sure.  I would call to see.

Hey I wouldnt worry my midwife doesnt listen for a heartbeat until your at least 14 weeks cause it only stresses people out when they cant find it before that time an u/s will put your mind at ease good luck keep us informed

LIL i understand that i am 12 weeks on my second child i have been bleeding and cramping i start at 6 weeks and 2 days it lasted a week and again at 12 weeks i started bleeding again the doctor said some wemon bleed like they are on their period for the first five months i have now had 5 intervangail ultersound and have seen the baby his heart beat is at 51 beats per min. though and they are concered but, he has a heart beat. They have me on bed rest and misscarriage watch but, so far someing is shining down on us the doctor thinks i am having all this because this is my second child. I came on here looking for others who understand what i am going though and can help relive some of my fears. Hopefully i am just a worry wart i hope LIL and Appel you are both fine.

Hi Cane
I too have been bleeding since 6 weeks. I had pretty bad bleeds at 6 weeks, 10 weeks, 12 weeks and 16 weeks (worse than my regular periods).  In between these bleeds was constant brown discharge.  Finally yesterday (I'm 18 weeks) it is slowing down and I didn't have much brown yesterday.  I too am on bedrest, but so far the baby seems fine.  This is my first pregnancy, so I'm not sure what aches and pains are normal now. When I was bleeding, I was definately having bad cramping/backaches (and always convinced I was miscarrying, but the ultrasounds were normal).  They still don't know where I am bleeding from, but suspect a little clot/hemorrhage somewhere.

Good luck with your baby! I will keep prayers out for us all.
