2 1/2 month old son (please read and respond)

Well my son is almost 3 months and everyone said he is way ahead of the game with development wise. He already rolled over from back to stomach, he was able to hold his own head up at 1 week, he is already trying to sit up by himself. Is this normal? Or is he really ahead of the game?

dd was holding her head up at birth (and she was a preemie). she sat assisted (on a lap) early- don't remember when. She was sitting fully on her own by 5 months- unassisted for up to a half hour at a time. She was not a roller though.

it sounds like he's right on target. i doubt he would sit this young, but they do like to hold their heads up and sit assisted in laps at this age.

You might get a copy of the book from the "Your Pregnancy Week by Week" people that is called (this is from memory but will be close) "Your Baby's First Year Week by Week."  It sometimes is not so helpful to have pals and family (who don't happen to be child development experts) either tell you that your child is advanced or imply that something is not happening that should, and it helps to have a book that just lays out what to expect and when.

If your child is really way ahead of the game physically,  get yourself some great tennis shoes to chase him!   Children who develop way ahead of their time tend to be fearless and daring - so brace yourself,  you're in for a very,  very rocky ride with a healthy athletic boy who pushes the limits!

I think our daughter did things early - she was holding her own head at birth, she was sitting up at five months - she isn't walking but she knows how to climb stairs - whole other story there - and she is a livewire - so there might be some truth to what RockRose said - my only suggestion is don't push anything - so many parents rush their child, practicing sitting up or using a Bumbo for one too small - enjoy each step of development WHENEVER they come - our daughter is ten months old now and I can't believe how fast ten months went - enjoy each day!!!!
