I have no knowledge of transfers,  and I don't know what is happening, but I have suffered 2 miscarriages, and if that is what is happening-  I just wanted you to know how sorry I am-  it is a terrible time, and I will remember you in my prayers.  Hang in there...

Five weeks seem so soon to just say you are going to miscarry.  I am not sure how transfers work, but in a woman that gets pregnant on her own most of the time you can't see anything until weeks  6 - 9.  I don't think I would give up hope just yet.  Hope everything works out for you.  You will be in my prayers.  If a miscarriage is what's happening, I too want to let you know how sorry I am.

Your bloodwork levels are only useful for assessing the situation if, along with the numbers, there is the information of how many days apart they were.  If all 4 blood draws were each two days apart, and those were your numbers, they would look appropriate for a healthy pregnancy.  If on the other hand, you had one a week for 4 weeks and those were your numbers, they would be considered to be rising too slowly to indicate a normal pregnancy, as the numbers are supposed to double (or close to it) every 48 hours.

If you had retrieval on the 20th, your supposed 1st day of your last period (by which all pregnancies are dated, even IVF pregnancies when your last period was actually some different time) would have been October 6th.  That puts you, on the day of your ultrasound scan, as being about 6 weeks, 3 days pregnant.  Usually (and there are exceptions you will read about on this site where a baby suddenly appears at week 7 that wasn't there before) something can be seen in the scan by week 6.  Even if it isn't an embryo with a beating heart, it will generally be a fetal pole and yolk sac, or something.

So depending on the question of the time lapse between your blood tests, and noting the fact that sometimes someone on this site will write that they only saw a sac late in week 5 and then saw a baby in week 7, it does sound like the doctor is largely giving you an accurate assessment of your chances.  I am so sorry.  When you ask what happened, well, medical science in this area is great but it is not a guarantee, any more than there is a guarantee any woman in the world who gets pregnant by any method will not miscarry..  Embryos fade for reasons all of their own, due to chromosomal issues or links missed way back at conception.  It is nothing you did or didn't do, it's just bad luck.  Ask questions of your doctor, and try again.  Again, I am sorry.
